Flatski
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Surf Reports.Well, if it wasn’t flat a couple of hours ago it nearly is now. Stiff 20 knots of W wind has pretty much squashed any remant of swell that was out there this morning. But looks like it will kick back in tomorrow afternoon and keep building through Sat and Sunday.
Pics: did you surf No Mans Tues arvo
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Don's surfin' pics, Top stories.Hi all,
For those of you who got out at No Mans on Tuesday afternoon from around 215 to 355 pm, I got some pics. Like 300 of ‘em.
If you got a wave, chances are I got a snap. Anyway, I’m calling the conditions 7-8 out of 10, so even if you weren’t there, you might want to check it out by heading over to the page on my blog here.
Central South Carolina, USA
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Surf Reports.Roberto is back in the saddle (longboard?) and hoping to serve those in South Carolina! Specifically Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s island. So hear goes his first post in three years after moving from Puerto Rico.
One word – flat. Buoy data shows 3 feet at 5 sec. from the south through Friday. The problem is this is only a wind swell being pushed by 15+ mph winds also from the WSW. Expect hot temps near 95 degrees Thursday and Friday so by all means, go to the beach, but leave the board at home. Water temp is 83 degrees with tides for Thursday at 04:06AM H, 10:21AM L 05:01PM H.
GLOBAL SURF INDUSTRIES NOOSA FESTIVAL OF SURFING HANDS OVER $19,500 FOR CHARITY

The 2009 Global Surf Industries Noosa Festival of Surfing, presented by Golden Breed, raised almost $19,500 to split between three beneficiary charities – Surf Aid, the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and Frangipani Dreams.
At a hand-over of the donations in Noosa yesterday, Festival director Phil Jarratt and sponsorship manager Trudy Croad thanked major sponsor Global Surf Industries for the donation of 35 surfboards, and the artists from around Australia who donated their time and talent to create works of art from them. Jarratt said the silent auction of art surfboards had contributed more than $11,000, while the world champions teams auction had raised a further $7,500, and a Red Cross bucket appeal during a free concert had raised $800 cash.
“So many people contributed to this in so many ways,” Jarratt said. “Artists, musicians, sporting champions, surf companies, volunteers…the list is endless. But the main contribution came from everyone who participated in the Noosa Festival of Surfing in a spirit of generosity. With more than 500 competitors it’s the biggest surfing event in the world, but it’s also the happiest. The people who come to our event year after year know how lucky they are to be surfers, and they want to give back.”
Jarratt said major sponsors Global Surf Industries and Golden Breed had already committed to the 2010 festival, to be held March 14-21, and a full event program would be released during July. The festival website will be live and accepting entries from August 1.
WRL’s 50th Anniversary Open Day
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Environment, Top stories, Weather. The Water Research Laboratory (WRL) is celebrating 50 years in 2009, and as a part of our celebrations, we are holding an Open Day.
Saturday, 4th July
between 9 am and 2 pm
at 110 King St, Manly Vale (near Manly Dam)
The Water Research Laboratory is a unique facility undertaking various water engineering studies. A major component is the construction and testing of waves and water flow in large scale physical models of breakwaters, desalination plants, dams and spillways.
With several physical models on display, the Open Day is a great opportunity to visit WRL. We invite you to come and see the expanse and resources of WRL, and observe a range of physical models in action.

Waiting time
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
It’s very, very small looking at Dee Why and from the look of the MHL data, it’ll be much the same everywhere else in Sydney. There is a little 10+ sec component in the mix, so you just might find a every-ten-minutes peak on an exposed stretch.
Otherwise looks like a great day to catch up on your non-surf life.
With luck things should start to turn around on Saturday. The models are currently showing a stretch of 3-4 days of surf, with Sun-Mon currently looking like peak days to me. But it’ll be damn chilly (by Sydney standards my international friends!) as temps ranging from 9-16 will prevail across the same period.
Gotta jam, so will try to get back later with more thoughts. Have yourself a great day!
Synoptic Situation

Not quiet flat…..
Posted on July 2nd, 2009 in Manly. But very very close to it. Once again we have been blessed with a stunning sunrise and perfect conditions but with one key ingredient missing………swell. Fingers crossed we should get a decent increase in this over the next few days but for now its best to get your house in order for when it does arrive.
