on tuesday at 7 pm: close to lakelike at our rivermouth point, alas, with just a few curls and corners pushing their way through – suggests the same at the lost village point, about 20km closer to the straits mouth – i was hoping for better, since the clear, still weather of several weeks, has given away to some rains and wind – at cox bay, just south of tofino, and some 160 km further up the coast, looks like about 2 – 3 foot, long lines, not too clean, decently-attended – ucluelet, 30 km back towards us from tofino, looks choppy and indecisive – estevan point, 60 km beyond tofino, is the bright blue of a defective beach cam – lamented marine winds at our straits mouth, southerly only to 15 knots – please stay tuned ……

Smaller but still here Wednesday

Posted on July 8th, 2009 in South Carolina.

Now for Wednesday we still have this lingering front capable of producing a shower at any time. But the real issue is the swell, which is small at 2 feet and will only be worth looking at with the incoming tides after 2:30 pm. The good news is that light winds under 10 mph can be expected most of the day and the direction will again be mostly off shore. So for you longboarders, you may have a small fun wave by mid day.

Worth a paddle

Posted on July 8th, 2009 in Manly.

Well after the swell increase yesterday arvo we still have some fun waves this morning. Its not the perfect conditions of the last 4 or 5 days but well worth a paddle. The wind is yet to get up and for some strange reason there is a real low crowd factor this morning which means the stoke factor rises a couple of notches in my opinion. A few head high sets but mostly they are wasit to shoulder high with some fun sections and a light offshore breeze. A few young kids out there are absolutely ripping it apart.   Anyway I must be off as after a late one last night I am only now just struggling into my wetsuit and need to get wet. Have yourself a great day.

Southerly day ahead

Hello Friends,

Waves around this morning and the wind wasn’t beating it up at Dee Why as of 0800. Wind is due to be a factor though. Sets in the beachy were head high plus and the point was showing maybe shoulder high. I’d expect some bomb sets to be in the mix because the buoy is currently swell + sea heights of 4 metres and there is some 10 sec period stuff in amongst the 9 sec waves.

Surf prospects for the next few days look okayish to me. Not great maybe, but it shouldn’t take a lot of internal dialogue to get you into the water if you’re even remotely stoked. Beyond that, things are really looking interesting. A substantial region of fetch is showing on the model projections for this weekend. It looks as though it will push down from the north and start washing the east coast with swell from late Saturday through Monday. If you have a fave east swell spot, might be a plan to book yourself some time to check it on Sunday and Monday. Usual caveats apply: these are computer model projections. They get it right most, but not all of the time.

High tide’s set to arrive around 0854 and low will come along at 1417.

Byron Bay today July 7th 09

It was about as wintery as it gets up here, In Byron Bay Today. There were cold S/W  in the morning with low laying cloud. By lunchtime the wind had turned S/E, and with it came the rain the S/W breeze had been holding out to sea. There were a few little waves, and the usual suspects were getting amongst it. We’ve currently got the Queensland and Victorian school holidays on and next week, NSW starts. So despite the cool weather town was quite busy today, but the chill was keeping most folks off the beach as they filled the cafés. Can’t say I blame them, some of the eateries around town were looking pretty cosy and tempting this morning. But instead we went and stood in the rain, froze our arses off and got our shots. Still trying to figure out whether Yoko and I are very dedicated or just utterly bonkers, but shoot we did, and actually strangely enjoyed it In Byron Bay Today.
