Posted on July 10th, 2009 in South Carolina.You know it’s not a good day for surfing when the Kite Boarders are out. The NE wind has been blowing for more than 24 hours kicking up a wind swell full of chop and slop and Friday you can expect the same.

Light easterly winds are delivering a chopfest to our beaches. Outlook is for the wind to be E/SE all day, so you’ll want to be extra keen to get in the water I’d say. On top of the wind, or rather under it, the sea is currently slopping a rather ordinary SE windswell at us. It’s a couple metres offshore, but the average period is a platry 7 seconds so finding anything much above waist high will be an accomplishment.
The Goat’s forecast is interesting. He’s not as bullish on the swell prospects as the latest run of models for the Sydney region. We shall see what we shall see, but it looks from the WAMs as though we should definitely get surf over the Sun-Tue period.

Sunday: Wind: NW 10/20 knots.

There is light southwest breeze forecast to go southeast later. Low tide 0410 and high tide around 1005. Local barometer 1019 hpa, 8 degrees C. 98% humidity. Have a good weekend.

Posted on July 10th, 2009 in Manly.You may find yourself some more of that good old fashioned ESE swell of 7 seconds to play with. Its small and gutless and you will need to get amongst it early whilst its still glassy although that wind looks to be on its way up already. Get ready to clear the decks for later in the weekend when a nice new grunty swell should hit the beaches. Winds look favourable at this stage so fingers crossed our mighty fine winter can continue.

Windswept and interesting In Byron Bay Today. Got to say that winds got some bight in it too, even this far north. But I suppose it is winter over this side of the planet, so one kind of has to expect it. There were actually some pretty good waves today, sunshine, a tad too much wind and a radically overzealous crew of beginners out the Pass. If you are a learner or inexperienced surfer, do yourself a huge favour. In the sidebar menu on my website you’ll find two links. One is titled Learn To Surf, the other Byron Surf Lore. Use them, it’s free, you might even learn something useful. Ok on with the show, we headed into town and found a spot out of the wind; actually it was quite warm with uncrowded waves. Go figure that out, up the beach was blowing a gale, and crowded. Down the beach was clean, less wind, warm and empty. that’s Byron for ya. We spotted a couple of local blokes we know, who nearly always manage to avoid the crowds, shot them, than talked crap in the car park. They’d had a ball, but I’m not saying where, you’ll have to go look for yourselves. Remember half the fun of surfing is looking for uncrowded waves. That’s the way it’s always been, and that much at least hasn’t changed yet, In Byron Bay Today.
