Afternoon wrap (Bower, Dee Why)
Posted on July 13th, 2009 in Dee Why, Fairy Bower.Hello Friends,
Just back from a shooting session at Dee Why. Light was pretty ordinary, but I shot a lot anyway because it was so big. You’ll find the pics below the Bower shots…
In the meantime, here are some snaps I got from a sesh at the Bower this morning. It was pretty setty and the light was fairly dull, but I did get a few okay pics (still having issues with the camera focus mechanism). Waves were pretty fun too. But man did those sets have some clout. I think we all got worked at one time or another…
And here are a few snaps from Dee Why late this afternoon…

Posted on July 13th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Apparently DY is currently going off it’s “breasts”! BIG this morning when I paddled out with two others but my 6’0 was way too small for the 6-8ft conditions so i’d suggest something much bigger if you’re going out this arvo. Curly missing the lions share of the swell owing to the eatserly direction but heaps of quality waves last night to be had in the 4-5 foot range. Should be swell tomorrow but it’s dropping fast. Enjoy.

Posted on July 13th, 2009 in South Carolina.Weather systems are heading our way this week starting with Monday bringing SW winds 10-15 mph and no swell other than the wind waves. South facing beaches could see some action Tuesday.

good condx, pleny of water moving, some good waves to be had
Posted on July 13th, 2009 in South Coast.I reckon its a tad bigger this morning then yday arvo and cleaner with a lite W/NW breeze. Cracking 6ft sets out of the ENE, plenty of water moving around. Find your favourite ENE swell/NW wind combo spot, get your paddling arms on and get out there. Water temp I reckon is about 18/19C on the Nth Shoalhaven stretch. Rosco.
Out and about on a swell day
Posted on July 13th, 2009 in At large, Collaroy, Dee Why, Fairy Bower, Manly, South Narrabeen.Hello Friends,
Bit of a mixed bag this morning. I started my survey of options with a visit to Manly. Not many in the water along the beach but looked like a fair few at the Bower early. Beachy was producing some very, very nice looking set waves, but you’d be doing a bit of work if you got caught inside and as a consequence it was not excessively populated. Looked to be waves from one of the beach to the other.
Didn’t check Freshy, but did have a look at Curly. Couldn’t see anyone in the water from the middle of the beach south. Too glarey to see the north end but I’d be surprised if there was much quality given the look of the rest of the beach. Big, but disorganised and chaotic looking for the early.
Over the hill at Dee Why the situation was much the same. Swell was overwhelming the point and the beachy just looked messy and big and confused. Every now and then you could jag one of the medium size ones at the point (too big and they just close out across to the top of the super peak). Only a small crew in the water for the early.
Up at Collaroy things were pretty ho-hum. You could get a left back from the pipe, but the swell needs more north to really get going. Nothing much getting into the Kick. A sole tow-in was working out at Centuries…
Last stop on the run-around was a visit to south Narrabeen. Only a couple bods in the water there and for good reason. Very high percentage were shutdowns and they’re big and quite heavy so you really don’t want to be in the impact zone for any length of time. Had to wait 10 minutes to get a shot of a person on a wave – and then I forgot the autofocus wasn’t on… d’oh!
Looked like quite a crew up at Northy as well.
oh what a way to start the week
Posted on July 13th, 2009 in Manly.Midday update- The high tide has worked a treat with a lovely A frame at Queenie dominating proceedings. Its still a solid double overhead on the sets but the long lulls make the paddle out bearable – if only just!! Well worth it if you can scam sometime away from the office for a session. The wind has stayed away and long glassy walls are the order of the day – as long as know one drops in you will be one very happy camper.
Fantastic conditions along the beaches this morning. A shame that Manly is not breaking as perfect as it sometimes does. Its still got some good size on it at a solid 4 foot with a few bigger ones thrown in. Longer lulls between sets this morning and it definitely feels like its dropping in size. I surfed the Bower which was a little bit of an error with the bumpy wave face making the takeoff’s a tad exciting and tricky. If you haven’t been out yet I would advise ya to drop whatever you are doing and head to the beach as there are good waves to be found. Enjoy.

Byron Bay Today 12th July 2009
Posted on July 13th, 2009 in Byron, Comment, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. It was a glorious Sunday, In Byron Bay Today. The sun was shining, there was a good solid south east swell wrapping around the cape and there were some pretty decent if not lumpy waves to be had. The wind did get up from the north creating some lumpy conditions. But hey, you can’t have all. The other side was offshore and clean, but way too big for the punters, so we shot the bumpy stuff in the bay. Now the Gromfest has been on down at Lennox resulting in little pigmy blokes with sponsor stickers and big attitudes all over the place. I’s really good to watch the midgets go for it as some of them are pretty talented. But here’s a tip little guys. The majority of you probably won’t make a living from surfing. Not being negative here either it’sjust reality; don’t waste your youth being too serious about a surfing career. If you’re lucky enough to make it, great, if you don’t it doesn’t matter. What matters is you’re surfing; remember to have some fun while you’re doing it. To have a head full of agro, competitiveness and ego at age twelve is kind of tragic. Be stoked that you’re surfing or you may lose touch with why you do it, because it’s fun. Ok that’s enough of me playing at being a crusty old salt. The NSW school holidays is off and running so town was buzzing today, it’ll be a busy couple of weeks in the water, so remember to take it easy on each other, and just enjoy the fact that you’re, In Byron Bay Today.
