Just testing

Fading, fading…
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Went for a surf late morning at the point with a crew of others. Sets were getting further apart, but every now and then a good one would come through. Happy to say I scored quite a number on the 7S. Had the Panasonic FT1 with me and grabbed a few snaps to share (see below). Wind was pretty brisk when I got out of the water and that, in combo with a high tide, was making it necessary for us to take off into blinding spray pretty close to the rocks. Makes it interesting anyway. After surfing I did a bit of camera testing on the beach. If any of the shots I took from that are of interest, I’ll share ‘em later.
Swell is dropping fast in Sydney, although from the look of the traces those of you good folk up the coast are probably scoring still. Outlook for the swell to turn more SE and to be in the metre range on average tomorrow. If the period doesn’t get any worse, then there could still be a few little peaks to be found on Weds. On Thursday it looks like things will take a more southerly turn and we could see some okay size south windswell (6-8 sec, up to shoulder high).2-3 feet and still a few quality waves about
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Curly was 3 feet this morning and looking OK but DY and manly were better on the easterly swell direction. 3 feet and dropping fast at DY this morning with some quality waves to be had with a minimal crowd and light offshores. New swell due on Thursday night- the good times just keep on rolling- enjoy.
Not looking good
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in South Carolina. Our front will continue to slide south of us for the week bring the chance of showers mostly in the afternoon, but despite the calmer ESE winds, the buoy is showing less than 1.5 feet. And it looks this way through Saturday.

dropped a lot but still some fun ones
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in South Coast.Chilly but perfect condx with 2-4ft waves and long lulls. Wind was W/NW early but swung SW about 8:30ish. Swell has turned a bit more SE than E and still some nice lines but had a definite “dropping” feel, pretty much as forecast. Worth a paddle. Rosco.
Faded but not gone
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in At large, Curl Curl, Dee Why, Manly.Hello Friends,
Out and about this morning with the camera to catch the last of the swell. It’s very setty now, but places exposed to the east swell direction are still showing the occasional shoulder high plus set. Here are some pics and brief comments…
Manly was very crowded this morning. Lots of 5 person takeoffs so don’t be deceived by the relatively uncrowded look to the snaps (of bomb sets mainly)…
Next stop was Curly which although radically less crowded was not in the same league quality wise. More just standard issue misc. beachy, ie the odd fun section and lots of shutdowns and weird ones. Again, a couple of set waves looked like this:
Over the hill at Dee Why the beachy was looking pretty small for the most part. Not too many in but every now and then a nice set would appear. The real action (and crowd) was at the point where the swell seems better tuned to the situation than yesterday. A water photog was out and the people in the water were obliging with enthusiasm. Don’t know that you could fit too many into that slot takeoff though…
Like my work? Why not sling a tip toward my new camera fund? I wanna get a pro rig like the one used for these shots (Nikon D3 and 300mm f/2.8), but I gotta save up first!

Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Um,….you shoulda seen it yesterday! Seriously, though, the swell has backed right off. It’s now around shoulder-high with far less grunt

C C Nice
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Fine and mild on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning. The swell is consistent and smooth at 3 – 4 feet from the east northeast. There is light to moderate west northwest breeze. Low tide 0639 and high tide around 1255. Local barometer 999 hpa, 10 degrees C. 74% humidity. Have a good one.
On the fade
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Big Picture.Hello Friends,
Waiting for it to get light enough to take some pics. So in the meantime, a status update for you early risers.
Swell has faded sharply overnight, dropping from an average of 2 metres at 12 seconds yesterday to around a metre at 10 seconds now. There are still some 13 sec sets left in the mix though, so with luck there should be a wave or two to be had (at a similar size to what we had Sunday morning).
Okay, I’m off to see what I can spot. Pics up as soon as I am able…
Low tide was at 0530 and high is at 1255.

Byron Bay Today July 13th 2009
Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports. It was blowing a gale, In Byron Bay Today. Ok maybe gale is a bit of an exaggeration, but it was certainly pretty bloody windy that’s for sure. Now we got heaps of swell but the wrong wind & nowhere is holding it at the moment. Right now it’s maxing the ocean side and the wind is problematic in the bay. There’s a large E-S/E swell running and it’s really twisted up badly with the wind. So all you grommets on hols take it easy over the next few days, let it settle down a bit. Maybe tomorrow things might straigten out a bit. If not, well at least you can still get your daily dose of being, In Byron Bay Today.
