Posted on July 19th, 2009 in Don's surfin' pics, Top stories.Hey all,
If you were in the water from about the lagoon entrance south to Longy between about 1145 and 1345 on Saturday 18 July, I might have taken your picture. Even if you weren’t, I reckon there are a few worth looking at…

We were catching waves from about the lagoon entrance south to the pole. Sets were into the chest high range and I got over a hundred pics.
Lazy Sunday afternoon
Posted on July 19th, 2009 in Avalon, Big Picture, Cooks Tce, North Narrabeen.Hello Friends,
Coming back from kid soccer around noon, I had a look at the waves in Avalon, Cooks and Northy. All were very small, but people were out having a go anyway because it was just such a fantastic day. Mild, sunny, light offshores… if only we had a couple more feet of swell.
Biggest set I saw might’ve been waist high on the take off. Mostly though it was smaller than that.
The models have turned rather pessimistic for the coming week. I think we’ll be doing well to find anything much in Sydney. The seasons are gradually changing. I hope the super computers are wrong on this one, but as usual, we shall see what we see!
Not much surf at Dee Why but some serious whale action

Posted on July 19th, 2009 in Big Picture.Heya,
Not sure if I’ll have time to file an early one, so tapped this out last night…
With luck the little 9 sec period south swell will still be around for the dawn patrol. As of 2200 Sat night it was still chugging along according to the MHL buoy data from Sydney, Batemans Bay and Eden.
The models suggest we could get some shoulder high sets, but mostly it’ll be smaller than that at south swell spots.
First tide of the day is a high at 0524, followed by a low at 1100 and another high at 1743.

Byron bay Today’s Weekend Windup 18th July 09
Posted on July 19th, 2009 in Byron, Just for fun, Local Colour, Surf Reports.Welcome to, In Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Windup. That was quick, the first week of the NSW school holidays is done & dusted. As usual there’s a few surfing families we’ve gotten used to seeing in Byron over this period and it’s always good to catch up, share a few waves and say hi to their kids. Thankfully for the little ones and the parents as well, the rain has pretty much held off all week. There have been a few quick showers but nothing to really make life too hard. The really good news is that there have been waves all week. Ok it hasn’t been ‘All Time Perfect’ but there’s consistently been an east swell and fairly light wind, well most days. The end result being that there’s been the luxury of choice, so nowhere was radically crowded. There were moments when it got a little intense for what it was. But considering all aspects, most folks have been having a good time and behaving well in the water which is really cool. The few that haven’t, well maybe they just need to ask themselves why they feel so driven to compete, when it’s not a competition. Today saw a small, and I mean really small increase in south swell. But nowhere near as much as everyone was hoping for. So we’ll just have to sleep on it and see what tomorrow may hold, In Byron Bay Today.

A southerly arrived early and laid waste to most surf options on Monday, but the east swell still had some legs and there were waves to be had at the Bower and Collaroy. So, I grabbed...
