Saturday wrap
Posted on August 1st, 2009 in Big Picture, Long Reef.Hi all,
Didja get waves? Hope so! You had to be selective and this morning on the lower tide was better at most places than this afternoon on high. That said, your correspondent managed to jag several very fun head high plus sets at Long bombies late this afternoon. Not the easiest place to take pictures, so only got a small number.
I did a bit of shooting this morning at Dee Why and Curly, so expect galleries from those sessions in due course.
Swell was still pretty solid as Huey squeezed the last little bit of light out’ve the day. Sets at Longy were consistently in the overhead range and it looked as though it was that size all the way down the beach to Dee Why. However on high tide Dee Why was not that interesting – the beachy was shutting down and the point was crowded, inconsistent and fat. Oh, and the breeze was onshore for awhile as well.
Outlook fer tomorrow… well, I reckon it’s going to be smaller but with luck it won’t be ridiculously little. From the look of the buoy data off to the south of us, the period will probably get shorter (ie weaker waves) and the average height will drop a bit. If we have waist to chest high with WSW wind, I’ll be happy.
Have a great Saturday evening one and all.

Posted on August 1st, 2009 in Surf Reports.on friday at 3 pm: very small at the lost village beach, just a semi-circular little wash under a choppy high tide, sweeping over the innermost shoals and boulders at the central surfing spot – returning eastward past our rivermouth point, the lines were nudging a little higher, under increasing winds, and finally some cloud cover after weeks of hideous clear skies and beating merciless california-style heat: the global warming nightmare, in north america’s only and way-too-teeny rainforest …. wave conditions may improve suddenly – please stay tuned – no weather forecasts, beach cams or Flobots banner today, alas, since i am hobbled with an ancient computer, pending a windows restoration miracle disc, courtesy of the wonderful people at Symantec Corporation …
Going off everywhere!!
Posted on August 1st, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.4-6 foot and offshore at South Curly and a fair sized crew having a punt. Freshie closing out and no one out, Manly looking good on the sets but a bit small & weak and Dee Why looking like a fatter version of Lakey Peak with 10 times the crowd. Cracker day, great surf, good winds, tides are OK (low at 10.30) so get to your local and get wet. Enjoy.
Still cranking
Posted on August 1st, 2009 in Manly.Morning…and its a lovely winters day again – what is it with all this great weather!!! Surf is lovely once more – the longish period south swell is finding its way into all the normal spots along the peninsular this morning. Manly is well worth a look and should continue to improve throughout the day. Sets are well overhead and a lovely light offshore breeze is holding them up. Its still a little annoying that there are only a few waves per set and the lulls are still around but its a well worth a paddle. Have yourself a great day.
