Grow your own artificial reef?

Posted on August 18th, 2009 in Top stories, weird surf.

I’ve no idea if this could possibly work. The mind boggles!

The artificial Reef  will be constructed electrolytically. By applying a week electric current in seawater mineral material will build up on the cathode (negative pole). Chemically this material is equivalent to limestone or coral and will be an excellent host for catalyzing sea-life.

Catching little ones at No Man’s

Posted on August 18th, 2009 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Since the rest of the week is looking not the best for surfin’, I made room in the schedule to get some water time. After scoping Curly and Dee Why (didn’t feel like travelling far), opted for the latter. Wandered up toward the pole where I’d spotted some bods hooking little lefts. Turned out a couple of them were the ever smiling Psillakis brothers. Set waves were in the chest high plus range, but the shutdown percentages were very high indeed. Didn’t really bag any great shots with the Lumix FT1, but I’ll share anyway…

The lefts were better than the rights.

Getting smaller…

Posted on August 18th, 2009 in South Carolina.

Flat Tuesday and flatter for Wednesday. Light SE winds under 10 mph. All eyes are on Thursday and Hurricane BIll. The early diagnosis says we could see swell by Thursday but that seems very early to me. Remember slow moving storms are best and Bill will be off the Bahamas by Friday. We will keep you posted.

Tiny but not flat

Hello Friends,

More energy than yesterday, but not big.

More energy than yesterday, but not big.

We’ve got a little pulse happening this morning. It’s nothing dramatic, in fact it’s really only a touch bigger than yesterday at this time. Out at sea off Sydney, the 2m swell is mainly out of the south at 9 to 11 seconds apart. If you’re going to get in the water this week, it looks as though today’s the day to do it. That’s because the models, quite frankly, look rather bleak for our part of the world.

The southern ocean is busy with lows, but they’re being kept well away from the east coast’s swell window. As things are currently shaping up, your only hope for a sip of juice will be to haul out the mal or the sup from about tomorrow onward.

Should be a beautiful day in Sydney this Tuesday and the wind should be okay in the morning, but turning onshore in the afternoon.

Have yourself a great day!

Byron Bay Today Aug 17th / 09

There were still a few waves to be had In Byron Bay Today
There were still a few waves to be had In Byron Bay Today

Started off sunny In Byron , but the cloud cover continued to build as the wind swung to the northwest teasing us with the promise of a southerly before sundown. But it was not to be, that high pressure system hasn’t faded back enough yet to let the southerly through. Tuesday should see that change reach us, yet I suspect it won’t blow south for long. Hope I’m wrong on that one. The swell was a smallish East to North east wind swell, it dropped off considerably from yesterday, but there were still some nice little slides to be found for those that bothered to look. It’s all a matter of perspective really; if you’re fussy you miss out. But if you’re just grateful for what Huey dishes up then there’s near always something to enjoy, In Byron Bay Today.
