A slight delay…

Posted on August 21st, 2009 in South Carolina.

Slower movement of Hurricane Bill has delayed peak arrival of a 9 foot swell until Saturday afternoon. Expect a 3 foot SE swell with SW winds under 10 mph when you awake Friday with period sets from 9 – 15 seconds by the evening. Could be interesting with a rising tide starting around 3 pm. It will depend a lot on the winds.

Getting sick of this!

Posted on August 21st, 2009 in Manly.

Well its basically flat again and things still look bad going forward. The only positive thing to say is that at least its not raining.  I watched 2 people having a crack this morning – one peak each! They caught a few but nothing of note with no real power or size but they were keen. Anyway I am going to play golf this arvo as it seems to be the only type of outdoor activity I shall conduct before the usual WB beers later on. Fingers crossed Huey starts throwing us a bone sometime time soon.

People in the water surfing

Posted on August 21st, 2009 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

A little group of people on very buoyant equipment actually standing for a moment or two as a little line carried them shoreward at Dee Why. Not bad considering that the average swell height at sea is less than a metre. It’s mainly coming from the east at a windswelly 7 seconds apart. However, the MHL Sydney buoy is also showing some 11 second component. That’s likely to be the reason people are catching anything at all.

I’m with the Goat on the outlook for surf over the next week in our part of the world. It’s dire.

Oh well, we’re getting into the season to catch up on things I guess.

Have yourself a top old day!

Byron Bay today Aug 20th 09

Many whale a leaping in byron bay today.

Many whale a leaping in byron bay today.

It was whale watching heaven, In Byron Bay Today. There were several pods moving back down south after doing their Whaley business up the coast. Now they must have had a pretty good time up there, because they were just going off in Byron bay today. The Majority of them were too far out of range to really shoot, but we got lucky. Just when we got up to the cape after lunch a small pod came in right under the lighthouse and had a little whale party for a while before heading back out to sea. It was just one of those moments, but judging by the way they’ve been behaving I’d have to say you really want to get up the cape for a look over the next few days As for today’s surf, well it had moments too around the ocean side, but it was basically the breaching Humpbacks that held everyone’s attention, In Byron Bay Today.
