No need to rush to the beach just yet…
Posted on October 7th, 2009 in Dee Why.415pm and all’s still quiet at Dee Why. Checked Curly around 3 and it was about the same. Not real sign yet of anything significant. But it will come…

…still waiting Huey!!!
Posted on October 7th, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Well, it’s 1.30pm and the swell is running late. It’s not 3.5m, it’s not even 3.5 feet! In fact, it’s about 1 foot at Curly and weaker than an 90 year old woman. The wind is SW and the sun is out but Huey hasn’t cut his part of the deal yet- won’t be too long. Enjoy.
Windy & south swell… at Huntington
Posted on October 7th, 2009 in California, Postcard.Hello Friends,
Your somewhat jetlagged but otherwise intact correspondent can report that it was probably okay for the early at Huntington Beach today. Unfortunately, by the time I got anywhere near the joint, the usual onshores were working their malevolent magic on a nicely liney south swell that appeared to be in the chest to head high range. Only people in the water were kiteboarding because it was just so chewed up by the wind. Weather is fine and sunny with a high around the 20 mark.
See? It could almost be a description of Sydney…
Well, except for the fact that there seems to be no real hope of swell here for the nexts week, but it should be ramping up in Sydney. Quality is likely to be an issue though as the wind will be 20 to 40kts tomorrow and through Thr.
Have a good one and I’ll try to file again soon.
Conflicting data
Posted on October 7th, 2009 in South Carolina. Its tough to call. Some say rain in the afternoon with SW winds, others say a low chance of rain with West winds. The buoy is going with a wind swell over 3 feet. I think you should check your local area and see whats up. I know Tuesday night was small, but ridable in the evening.

Not happening yet, but it’s coming…
Posted on October 7th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Last night it seemed as though we’d start to see the leading edge of that new swell by around midday today but having a check of the charts this morning, it’s now looking like it’ll more likely be later this afternoon or evening before it makes it way to Sydney. Eden buoy has just spiked up but it’ll take a while to make it’s way to Sydney but certainly by tomorrow morning we’ll see some very significant size around, possibly as much as 4m if the models are correct. Meantime, Dee Why Beach is even more docile than yesterday with the best sets managing only knee to waist high.
Stay tuned.

The Beat Goes On, In Byron Bay Today
Posted on October 7th, 2009 in Byron, Local Colour. And so the beat goes on In Byron Bay Today. This week it’s the New South Wales kids turn, and so far they’ve been pretty lucky, especially for this time of year. We’ve had some nice lines in the bay for several days in a row now, and there has been much rejoicing. However just a word to the wise, for the last three days now there’s been a suspected White Pointer Shark hanging around at the Pass & Clarkes Beach. Not a very big one, about 2.5m or so. But it’s not moving on, so be careful folks. If you see it, rather than trying to move it on and upsetting the creature, just leave it be. it’ll leave when it’s ready. You don’t want to wind up being Shark Sushi, In Byron Bay Today.
