Posted on October 8th, 2009 in Collaroy.Still a bit messy but some size to it. The pics make it look better than it actually is… Tomorrow prob be improved. Wind howling at 30+ knots from the SW, gusts to past 40. I’d give it a miss today.
Maybe in the morning.
Posted on October 8th, 2009 in South Carolina. The winds should be calm and you will have an incoming tide while the bouy shows a 3+ feet. But after that the NE winds and higher tides for the next several days should screw up any plans you have for surfing.

Game on.
Posted on October 8th, 2009 in Surf Reports. After waiting all day yesterday and nothing eventuating, it’s full GAME ON today.
Dee Why/Longy are firing with all they’ve got; and all the bombies out back breaking, including the fabled German Bank, though not in a form you be thinking about riding today. Inside a bit more it’s pretty chopped up from the howling SW wind but there are two hardy souls at the Point hooking into some bombs now and again. Experts only today.

Postcard from CA
Posted on October 8th, 2009 in California, Postcard.Hello Friends,
Thought I’d drop a line from the other side of the planet. Looks like conditions in Sydney are less than lovely this morning with SSW’ly wind hammering along at 20-40 kts and a thunderous 5 metre south swell (9 metres out at sea). Yikes! From the look of the WRL cam at Flight Deck, the swell’s not too big and it’s reasonably protected (or was at 0600) from the wind. But the open stretches are doubtless giant and windblown. The annoying thing is it looks as though the swell will keep pushing along at substantial size through Saturday, but the wind will stay pretty strong from the south. Grrr.
Of course you could be in southern California where we’re looking at a fading little south swell. It was too small to tempt anyone into the water from about Ventura north to Santa Barbara (it also drops to near flat in SB). I grabbed a rough and ready snapshot as we flew past Rincon. There might possibly have been a little waist high set thing out at Indicator (very top of the point which can sometimes offer a fun left in south swell), but in at the cove it was too small for even the mals or SUPs to turn out. A super high tide wasn’t helping much.
Have a great day, wherever you may find yourself!
Its here…….
Posted on October 8th, 2009 in Manly.Well finally we have a decent sized swell hitting the peninsula this morning. Its not really getting into Manly anywhere near as much as the more south facing beaches so far. Hardly much of a crew out there this morning which did surprise me. There are still some decent sized pits hitting the Queenie end of the beach and the bommie has had a few sets rare up on it. Quality is not flash but there are a few really good ones around. Things should improve as the water comes in and the swell begins to bend itself around a bit more. The swell is direct south at this stage and the period is begining to increase to over 10 seconds now. High tide is around 11:30am and winds look like they hold fromthe SW area. Presently they are 21 knots with gusts upwards of 30. Make sure you hang your washing up well!!! At least it should dry quick.

Well, the action’s here, but NN aint the place to be. Swell is big & messy & southerly, and there are pretty strong SW winds, too. Ergo, it’s just white & vile at Northy and one of those few mornings when not a soul is out
C C: Harry, go home if you don’t like it!
Posted on October 8th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Windy and overcast on the Central Coast this Thursday morning. The swell blown out and big at 4 – 6 feet from the southeast. There is a strong gusty south southeast blow. Low tide 0500 and high tide around 1130. Local barometer 1009 hpa, 12 degrees C. 61% humidity. Have a good one.
Wildly Windswept In Byron Bay Today
Posted on October 8th, 2009 in Byron, Local Colour. It was wildly windswept In Byron Bay Today. Yes folks the spring northerly came charging its way back into the bay, with a vengeance. It was a case of never mind the hats, hold on to your kiddies if you didn’t want see them go sailing away. In case you’re not quite getting the picture, it was a just a tad blowy in Byron Bay. As for the surf, well needless to say with the wind came some north east wind swell that was crossing up against a small south east ground swell. The end result when mixed in with the blow was an absolute mess. However we’re a stoic bunch around here or at least some of us are and willing to surf anything. So there were a few people getting amongst it, and it would be fair to say. That for those who took the time to look close enough and exercised a little patience, there were actually some enjoyable moments amongst the mess, In Byron Bay Today.
