Tiny ones at the ‘con
Posted on October 21st, 2009 in Postcard.Hello Friends,
Just another little postcard for ya from sunny southern California. Sounds like our weather’s not dissimilar to Sydney’s. “Surf” seems a pretty close match as well. A couple pals and I would not be put off, so we grabbed longboards and headed down to Rincon. Only three people in the water when we got there – for very good reason. Sets were struggling to get into the knee high range. But, as with places like the Pass, even when it’s really small, you can catch and ride them for a really long way. I reckon the critical part on my average wave was a zone about 10cm from top to bottom. If you could set the rail in there, your plank would just slide along smoothly. Turn off the line even slightly and you’d be sinking out or getting caught behind.
Water was really warm for here. Probably around the 18-20C mark and air temps were around 25. It was the first time I’ve been on a mal in awhile and it was a hoot. Anyway, here are a few snaps…
Just a nice day at the beach.
Posted on October 21st, 2009 in South Carolina. But no surf. Be careful walking the beach around Sullivan’s Island and Follly Island as the Coast Guard is trying to contain an oil spill in Charleston Harbor.

Dee Why–charts look good, surf doesn’t.
Posted on October 21st, 2009 in Dee Why, Surf Reports. If you were to believe what’s on the MHL buoy, you’d expect to look out the window and see some macking sets from that 14 second interval south swell that’s showing on the charts. Unfortunately, in the real world, it’s just about flat and instead look s like this:

Narrabeen Rpt
Posted on October 21st, 2009 in Surf Reports.
Everything from 8 second windswell to 14 second macking bone-crushers – acording to the MHL buoys, this morning. The reality, of course, is something around waist-high that’s pretty weak. Still,….looks like a gorgeous beach day, and the breeze is currently coming from the west

Praying For Swell In Byron Bay Today
Posted on October 21st, 2009 in Byron, Local Colour.Praying for swell, In Byron Bay Today. Yes folks the flat spell continues in and around Byron Bay. But there were actually a few fun tiny little lines, and that made an effort to get wet were treated to the extremely rare joy of surfing with an almost zero crowd factor in Byron Bay today. Now in other news there’s a ‘Blue Birdy’ Gig coming up at the Byron bay Community centre next Wednesday. The band is called Silent Running and features Super Cool New York freaked out Jazz Muso’s Barney McAll on Piano with Nir Felder on Guitar. There’s Gian Slater on vocals, Chris Hale on electric bass, Ben Vanderwal on drums and Dan West does laptop, wierdo toys and electronics. Local Sax Maestro David Addes assures me this is one gig you won’t want to miss. It’s rare that we get ensembles of this calibre through town. So get down to the Byron Bay Community centre next Wednesday the 28th October at 7.00pm or go in early and reserve your tickets before they sell out. In the mean time we can all pray for waves. Who knows maybe Huey will bless us soon with just a little more swell than we had, In Byron Bay Today.
