Sunny and small
Posted on November 10th, 2009 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Sunny, mild and altogether beautiful spring weather in Sydney this morning. The only problem from a surf perspective is that there’s really not much of anything resembling a surfable wave at Dee Why this morning. Judging from PB’s snaps of the Narra stretch, it’s not appreciably better at stretches of beach with good exposure to the prevailing easterly windswell direction. The MHL buoy is showing a period of 7 seconds, so if you’re patient and keen, I bet you’d get the occasional catchable bigger one (by bigger, I mean waist high).
From the look of the models, we’re not in for much of anything over the next week along our stretch of the east coast. We’re facing a week-long run of small (1 metre or less), short period and generally east to NE windswell.
I’d say it’ll be good for a swim maybe, a wander along the beach possibly, or if you haven’t yet had a go, an opportunity to mess about with a SUP.
The southerly swell generating systems are being pushed well to the south of us by the slow moving high pressure areas that typically appear this time of year. As well, those lows are generally weaker and less extensive, so it can be a long time between drinks for south swell spots. It’s still too early for the tropics to get going either, so we’re stuck with these long stretches of weak, locally generated windswell.
There doesn’t seem to be anything particularly noteworthy on the long range forecasts, but there might possibly be a bit of weak southish energy early next week… guess we’ll see…
Anyway, have yourself a top old day!

Posted on November 10th, 2009 in South Carolina.Expect plenty of it the next three days as wind and rain build up wind swell that will probably not be good for surfing the next couple of days. A Nor’easter is expected to form off Cape Hatteras so depending on what facing beach you surf in north SC, you could find some waves later in the week.

Posted on November 10th, 2009 in Central Coast, surf photography. For Sale – I have a Surtech (Tuflite) Velzy 12 foot Hawaiian Paddle board (not SUP) for sale. Excellent condition. $950.00 (cost $1600.00 + new). This board is a standard class racing paddle board and goes like the clappers, very fast. Good cross trainer for paddling on flat days. If you are interested I can send photos. Contact Matt at ms2007@bigpond.com
Fine, dry and ‘cool’ on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning. The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east southeast. There is a northwest puff, just turning light north northeast and forecast to freshen later. Low tide at 0855 and high tide around 1520. Local barometer 1017 hpa, 14 degrees C. 92% humidity. Have a good one.

Posted on November 10th, 2009 in Manly.Well I woke this morning at 5:30 had a quick look out the window and must admit I was a little bit excited. There was no wind!! I then checked the overnight data at North Head from our good freinds at BOM and for the first time in a long time it showed little overnight wind (compared to recent weeks) as well. So I grabbed a board headed down the beach and although conditions were a touch cleaner it was also very bumpy still and has dropped away in size – hate these short period wind swells. Come on Huey throw us a bone…………its just not fair. Oh well with nothing on the horizon for the rest of the working week I guess that means I will be catching up on some work. Yuck. Oh well the sun should be out expect a nice day of between 24 & 28 here on te coast. The winds will pick up (surprise surprise) as the day progresses. Enjoy.

Stormy Monday, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on November 10th, 2009 in Byron, Local Colour. No not the infamous pub cover band that traveled the east coast of Australia back in the early 80’s doing cover versions of Joe Cocker, Meatloaf, Super Tramp and the like. But, rather the fact that Huey was having a moody old Monday, with wild bursts of sunlight between rain and rumblings in between. We popped up to Bangalow for a quick meeting then bolted for town. Knowing that the swell would still be happening, and confident in the knowledge that although everywhere else within a sixty kilometre radius would be torn apart by today’s blow, Byron would still be half ok. We weren’t disappointed either; sure it’s was a tad lumpy and not quite as good as yesterday. But for those who bothered to look there were still some pretty sweet weekend leftovers, In Byron Bay Today.
