Sunshine and small… again
Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Dee Why, Surf Reports.Hello Friends
Your correspondent is off on a bit of an adventure this morning, so I’ll keep it brief for now. Situation is pretty much what you’d expect when the windswell is from the E-ENE at about a metre with a power setting of 7 seconds. Dire is the word. No one was in the water at Dee Why just before 0600.
My adventure? I’m heading to the wilds of Taylor Square on a jury summons. My first since becoming a citizen of this fair land a few years ago. I’ll have the netbook with me, so it may be possible for me to elaborate this report with some thoughts about the prospects later on today.
Have yourself a great day!

Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Surf Reports.Birthday Waves (HMB Jetty)
Posted on November 11th, 2009 in California, Half Moon Bay, Surf Sessions. Sincere thanks to King Neptune for serving up some tasty waves at the Jetty on my birthday. (And thanks to Scott for baking me an exceptionally tasty chocolate cake.) Just when I thought I was going to take away nothing from the surf session but duck-diving practice, I rode a really nice right on my fish, followed soon by another that wasn't too shabby. Stoked!I have a rule that I never work on my birthday, so I took a vacation day, gathered a couple buddies with flexible schedules, and headed to the coast for a rare midday surf on a weekday. It was nice to be able to check the surf/wind forecast and tides and then pick, to the best of my ability, the most optimal time/place to surf, without having to bookend it around the corporate schedule. There were a dozen or so people out (perhaps the recession is to blame?), but it wasn't crowded. Surfline had under-reported the surf height, which was up to shoulder to head-high, and it was a bit more breezy than forecast, with a fair number of closeouts, but I ain't complaining. And now I'm dialed back into the fish, ready to strip off the wax and pack Nemo up for our trip to New Zealand and Australia.
Not good for Wednesday, but maybe later in the week?
Posted on November 11th, 2009 in South Carolina.Yes its raining off and on along the coast for Wednesday and the winds should be pushing NE @ 25 mph as a Nor’easter forms off the coast near Charleston the next couple of days. While this will build the swell to near 7 feet, I doubt many will be in the rough water. What I see happening is that this Nor’ easter will head north bringing off shore winds eventually along with a diminishing swell. Timing is everything but the chance for glass and small waves is VERY possible so stay tuned (and dry).

C C Small
Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.Fine, dry and ‘cool’ on the Central Coast this Wednesday morning. The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet max. from the east. There is a light north northwest breeze forecast to go northeast later. High tide at 0425 and low tide around 1010. Local barometer 1016 hpa, 14 degrees C. 92% humidity. Have a good one. For Sale - I have a Surtech (Tuflite) Velzy 12 foot Hawaiian Paddle board (not SUP) for sale. Excellent condition. $950.00 (cost $1600.00 + new). This board is a standard class racing paddle board and goes like the clappers, very fast. Good cross trainer for paddling on flat days. If you are interested I can send photos. Summer Came Early, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on November 11th, 2009 in Byron, Local Colour.Ok it’s not quite summer yet, but the town is filling up for schoolies already, easy boys, they be kids. The weather is dropping out of that Spring pattern and settling into the more stable semi tropical summer feeling of less wind afternoon rains, and thank Huey, more easterly swells. Speaking of which. We’ve had a nice easterly swell running for a few days now, but it feels like tomorrow may see it fade. The water has been crystal clear and very warm with some fun little slides through the bay, although were losing sand rapidly at the moment, need that lump off the cape to start shifting soon. For the little whiteboard set, there have been some ok banks down near town on the lower tides so keep your eyes peeled for that. Although I’m not willing to say exactly where, so you’ll just have to go look for yourselves. Today was a stunner of a day in the bay, and its looks like we’re shaping up for a hot and busy summer. So remember folks whether when it gets hot and busy, it’s best to stay cool. Exercise a little patience in the water and the car parks and show a little respect for the locals and visitors alike. Then we can all enjoy a little time out to play, In Byron Bay Today.
