Going for ordinary
Posted by: Don on November 19th, 2009Hello Friends,
Returning from an editorial meeting for the next issue of Photo Review, I went by Curly and Dee Why to have a gink at the state of play. It was a bit before 3 pm and the NE wind was getting up into the forecast 15-20 kt range. There were a few bods in the water at mid-Curly but the energy levels seem to have dropped quite a bit. The MHL data for Sydney is showing a metre of SE windswell at around 7 seconds apart. There is some 12 second stuff in there as well, but I couldn’t see any real sign of it. Sets were struggling to get chest high (see the pic), and only then for a few moments. Around at Dee Why it looked quite a bit smaller than the junky stuff Barry and I briefly sampled this morning.
My expectation is that it’s likely to be small tomorrow morning, but with luck it will still be sort of catchable at exposed spots. The wind’s set to be NW early, and then to swing to the NE and pick up into the same sort of speeds experienced this afternoon. Right now Saturday and Sunday look to be around about the same.
Hope to have some pics from summercloud bay up a little later…
In the meantime, go well with all your plans!

What a great weekend! So what if Huey didn’t deliver as expected – the sun shone, the wind blew offshore and there were waves! I burnt a bit of petrol cruising round...
