Little waves about
Posted on November 27th, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why.[starratingmulti id=1 tpl=12]
Hello Friends,
Well, looks like we have some little waves. Overnight the windswell jumped from one up to two metres from the NE. Period’s only about 8 sec, so we aren’t talking huge and powerful, but there are definitely prospects for fun around the place.
Dee Why’s not usually the first place you’d look for a wave when the windswell’s out of the NE, but I saw a couple amusing looking chest high set waves when I climbed up for my traditional morning pictures.
We’re in for a stinkin’ hot day with NW wind, so it’s good to see that for once there should be a few waves to be had at most places (apart from those with mainly south exposure).
And just quietly, I’m liking the look of next week. More thoughts on that later…
On other matters, I’ve managed to get our spiffy shop graphic working on our main pages. I’ll try to add another product or two soon, but you can grab a FoRS shirt and cup right now.
Go well!

Grateful Witness In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on November 27th, 2009 in Byron, Local Colour.Strolling along a fairly empty stretch of beach. There wasn’t much going down, just enough swell and tide to turn on a few chunky little shore breaks. It looked fun enough but a little tricky. The young blokes are so stoked they made it look good, and I find myself, watching and thinking. Yeah I used to be able to do that, hmm twenty years ago. Then it hits ya, the forced serving of humble pie we surfers must face as we age. We may all stand around in the beach carparks raving about how good we were, before the dicky knees and dodgy hips demanded we take it a bit more easy. But we don’t get to stay that good forever. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt lately, it’s be grateful for what you’ve got when you’ve got it. If it’s removed, then I try to be grateful when I witness it in another. Being resentful for things past is a form of self abuse. If someone triggers a happy memory for me, then I get to experience that same feeling again. For me that’s something worth being grateful for, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on November 27th, 2009 in At large, Curl Curl, Manly, North Narrabeen.Hello Friends,
Went down to Manly to catch up with one of our visiting correspondents (Cynthia, who sends in the odd snapshot of surfin’ in Half Moon Bay, California). She was in luck because there were actual waves to be had. We ended up chasing shutdowns between Queenscliff and North Steyne. The swell was hitting North Steyne better, but it was pretty busy and the rideable sets seemed few and far between. Water’s nice and got a couple waves. The power level was not amazing, but if you got one that focused the energy a bit, it could be fun.
Here’s a snap to give you an idea…

On the way home, I went by Curly and Narrabeen. Curly was not super busy and there were a few peaks around. I’d say it was just a bit bigger than Manly but equally soft looking on the outside and more crunchy on the inside.
Made a brief inspection at Narrabeen. There were a few peaks in operation in addition to the usual one at the alley. Again, the waves on the outside were looking rather soft and fluffy, but if you could hang onto ‘em, they’d sometimes get a bit keener as you got inside.

Looks like more wind than we need
Posted on November 27th, 2009 in South Carolina.Even if it is off shore expect winds near 20 mph Friday with the bouy showing a 3 + foot bump. I think it will really depend on local conditions so check the beach near you.

At last
Posted on November 27th, 2009 in Manly. Some real quality out there!!! Woke up feeling a little shady after a few too many at the Wharf last night to be greeted by some lovely 3 ft perfection. There is an insane bank just south of North Steyne thats sucking the swell in almost perfectly. Lovely peaky hollow 3ft’ers flying in. One thing seemed pretty clear though – that the unemployment rate in Manly must be well above the nations average! Or maybe its just that the dreaded influx of summer backpackers is now in full swing. All they need to do now is learn not to drop in. Get yrself out there for some magic as the offshore wind is hanging in there.

Posted on November 27th, 2009 in Surf Reports. Finally some swell. It’s outta the Nth East, but only 8 seconds, so not super-punchy. SW winds do it some justice though. Maybe shoulder high on the big ones
