Hello Friends,

Fog was so thick along the northern beaches this morning that visibility was down to only a few hundred metres. Not that there’s all that much to see. I wandered down to Longy to scope the ESE windswell options and grab a pic or two.

As you can see, set waves are struggling to make the waist high mark. Plus, they’re really slow and weak, so if you don’t have a decent rider weight to craft length ratio happening, well, it ain’t happening.

The outlook for the next few days where Sydney’s concerned, seems to be about where it was yesterday, ie small to flat through the weekend. Your best shot this morning is spots that can do something with the weak E to ESE windswell. By this afternoon, the dominant direction could be going more to the NE and come tomorrow, that looks like being the setting for the next 48-72 hours.

Could be a good week for catching up on things. Speaking of which, yesterday afternoon we launched our new merchandise shop. For some time now I’ve been getting asked when we’d do some RealSurf tee shirts again and so after looking around at the various options, I came across an on-demand printing site called zazzle.com.

They recently opened an Australian office to build on their US success. What’s cool about it is that you can put designs (such as our logo!) on all kinds of stuff – and you only make the shirts or cups or whatever when an order comes in. Much better than the old way where you had to guess demand for styles, sizes, etc and then make a bunch and hope they’d sell.

In coming weeks, I’ll be adding more products to the shop, but for now you’ll find various Friends of RealSurf clothing options – and a couple different FoRS coffee cups too. Check it out below…

Not sure yet

Posted on November 25th, 2009 in South Carolina.

Looks like we will still have N-NW off shore winds Wednesday and Thursday with a small 2 foot bump. But the buoy data shows wave heights doubling to 4 feet Wednesday afternoon. Now that would seem impossible considering the wind is blowing the opposite direction. Of cousre some other influence may be bringing this increase to us. So for Wednesday, keep your eyes open after lunch.

Fine, dry and humid on the Central Coast this Wednesday morning.  The swell is small and weak at 1 – 2 feet from the east southeast.  There no breeze at the moment forecast to northeast later.  Low tide at 0840 and High tide around 1455.  Local barometer 1017 hpa, 17 degrees C. 97% humidity.   Have a good one.

For Sale -  I have a Surtech (Tuflite) Velzy 12 foot Hawaiian Paddle board (not SUP) for sale.  Excellent condition. $950.00 (cost $1600.00 + new).  This board is a standard (stock) class racing paddle board and goes like the clappers, very fast.  Good cross trainer for paddling on flat days.  If you are interested I can send photos.  Contact Matt at  ms2007@bigpond.com

That southerly didn’t last long huh, but hey it was still pretty joyous day.  Sure the surf wasn’t at its best, but it’s hard not to just get off on having a bit of a float between slides and enjoy the scenery on a day like this. If you’re patient enough every now and again a little rideable form slid past the cape for those willing to wait. Now on a funny note, I was having a little giggle about Dolphins being misidentified as sharks yesterday. Well today there was no mistake, the small two metre Mako that was sneaking around the crew today, was no Dolphin. The cheeky bugger kept cruising in and around everyone’s legs then took off, came back, and repeated the same behaviour several times. Don’t ask me what it was up to. But it was getting too familiar for my likings so I made my excuses I bravely ran away. It seems Huey decided it was time to have a little laugh at my expense, In Byron Bay Today.

Grey, messy, small, but you might be able to jag one

Super dedicated types going for a dig.

Super dedicated types going for a dig.

Hello Friends,

Looks like another good day for the office or school. There are some messy little waves trying to get into Dee Why. I’m still waiting for the light to improve a bit before grabbing a snap, but I can tell you there were a few folks in the water having a go in the very marginal conditions.

The biggest ones looked to be in the chest high range (briefly) but the 10-15 kts of SE wind that’s occasionally delivering those sets is also really working over the surface conditions. I’m filled with admiration for the obvious stoke levels that got this morning’s participants into the water. Inspiring stuff!

According to the Bureau, the wind will swing around to the NE this afternoon, so just maybe the situation will improve in the north corners a bit. Fingers crossed for that one.

Outlook for the remainder of the week is, sadly, not terribly good for the east coast. The overall trend on the models is toward flatness and onshores. There may possibly a little pulse of low, long period south swell at directly south facing stretches around about Thursday. I wouldn’t be marking it in my diary though. A real long shot for Sydney from the look of the data.

Have yourself a great day!

The Friends of RealSurf are back

Posted on November 24th, 2009 in Top stories.

Hello Friends,

Good news for everyone who’s asked when we were going to do another fundraiser so you could get a new RealSurf t-shirt.

We’ve just set up a fresh online shop with a range of Friend of RealSurf shirts – and even a couple of FoRS coffee cups.

Friend of RealSurf white tee

Friend of RealSurf white tee

The rather cool thing about the new shop is that it lets you easily choose from heaps of different styles and colours. We’ve made the leap into on-demand production. All you have to do is pick out a design you like, place your order and the shirt (or coffee cup) is printed and sent to you. Our shop is driven by an outfit called zazzle.com.au. They’re big in the States and have recently set up in Australia, so everything’s pretty slick and well designed.

Anyway, we’re stoked to have a way to produce FoRS shirts again, so we’re hoping lots of you will dive in and get yourself one today. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
