"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

A bit disappointing

Hello Friends,

Had one of those days when I just couldn’t reconcile my hopes with the reality. You know the deal I’m sure. Looked at Dee Why point, Collaroy, the Bower and Manly. None could persuade me to pull on the wetty.

It was a funny sort of day. There were waves around and in some places pretty big, but the quality just wasn’t enough to entice this correspondent.

I took pictures at Dee Why and Collaroy, but I didn’t get too many keepers. Waves were sectiony, often flabby and with the grey skies, rarely photogenic.

Still, I did pick out a couple to share. I took them with a Canon 7D that I have in for review at the moment. I like the speedy autofocus and the built in HD video is kinda cool as well. In fact, as an experiment I shot a wave at Dee Why which should be viewable below I hope.

By the time it got dark, the swell had moved slightly more to the SE. The period is hovering around the 9 second mark and the average size at sea is a touch over 3 metres.

I’m therefore quite confident that we’ll have something again tomorrow. The latest call from the Bureau for the Sydney region is for 20-30 kts of S-SW wind early, but it’s due to swing S-SE during the morning. Given that the tide’s going to be high early, we could face similar challenges vis a vis quality.

Here’s hoping Huey will smile upon us all!
