Afternoon update – it’s faded

Hello Friends,

Well, that was fun. Hope you got in before lunchtime today. As the NE’r came up and the tide dropped, the head high plus sets of this morning disappeared. Very disappointing for those who can only get in the water for the late.

I spent a couple hours in the water at Dee Why point this morning. There were quite a few in the water when I first paddled out, but by the time I came in there were less than 10 bods on it – even though there were still some solid sets. Works out that way sometimes I guess.

My plan is to put up a little gallery of pics later today so that you can get an idea of what it was like.

Outlook for the rest of the day is for the swell to get weaker, but not quite flat (as long as you’re at a spot that likes SE windswell).

Tomorrow is supposed to see NW winds early ahead of a 20-25 kt S-SE change later in the morning. The swell doesn’t look like coming back up to any extent. Indeed, the latest run of the models suggests that we’re in for a week or so of marginal, but not quite flat SE to ESE wind swell conditions.

Have yourself a great Thursday afternoon!

Morning surf

Posted on December 3rd, 2009 in South Carolina.

Thats right, its clean up time. Buoy shows a small 3 foot swell dropping but with a 12 sec. period. Furthermore the winds should be off shore. Unfortuntaely we still have a very high tide situation and that will be out going around 7:45 am. So you will have to monitor your local situation to see if you can hit the water early.

Cracking morning

Posted on December 3rd, 2009 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.

3-4 feet plus of swell at Curly but it’s full and should improve as the tide drops.  Manly and Queensie was sensational early at 3 feet and offshore this morning but it was hardly a secret- the place was chokkers with punters and for good reason. More swell forecast but nothing too big. Enjoy.

Cleaned up, looking fun

Posted on December 3rd, 2009 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Well, as I’d hoped, the swell’s cleaning up as it fades and this morning’s dawn patrol has turned out to be a good thing at spots like Dee Why. Both the point and the beach are seeing some solid head high to a little overhead sets. Not surprisingly the combo of swell, blue skies and almost no wind is being reflected in the numbers in the water.

Let me see if I can go find you some more pics to look at later…

Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:

Fine, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Thursday morning.  The swell is smooth and more settled at 3 – 4 feet from the southeast.  There is a light southwest breeze forecast to go northeast later.  High tide at 0925 and low tide around 1410.  Local barometer 1017 hpa, 13 degrees C. 90% humidity.   Have a good one. For Sale -  I have a Surtech (Tuflite) Velzy 12 foot Hawaiian Paddle board (not SUP) for sale.  Excellent condition. $950.00 (cost $1600.00 + new).  This board is a standard (stock) class racing paddle board and goes like the clappers, very fast.  Good cross trainer for paddling on flat days.  If you are interested I can send photos.  Contact Matt at  ms2007@bigpond.com

Cold, Beautiful And Just A Tad Spooky, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on December 3rd, 2009 in Byron.

in_byron_bay_today_021209_www.inbyronbaytoday.com_2009

Well it may well have been strangely cold in the bay today. But we had waves, offshore winds and Huey through in a stunningly good lightshow to boot. The crowd was getting a little radical at times, and a few folks were getting stressed by the greed of a few. Remember folks we’ve all got a right so try to take it easy in the bay. You know it never hurts to give a wave or two away. Try it sometime; if nothing else it will make you feel good about yourself, which is cool because self esteem is a whole lot better than ego. Either way Huey took charge of the situation stepped in and thinned the crowd by sending a huge shark right through the middle of the crew this evening. Man did that get us all moving, myself included. So bravely deciding that discretion is the better part of valour, I headed in to let Yoko know what was coming her way. We both agreed it was time to leave it to those who believe they’re immune to shark bite, and finish taking our shots, In Byron Bay Today.
