Oh so tiny – but not quite absolutely flat
Posted on December 21st, 2009 in At large, Dee Why, North Narrabeen, South Narrabeen.
Hello Friends,
Very small this morning at stretches with east exposure and pretty much flat elsewhere.
We’re set to get increasing N-NE winds as the day unfolds, so your best hope for the late will be those semi-protected northern stretches which may possibly show a tiny and gutless little E-NE wind wave.
The Bureau tells us that the next three days will feature standard issue summer afternoon NE seabreezes. It doesn’t look as though it’ll build up anything significant in the way of windswell (probably because it’s not expected to go too hard), so I’d say we’re stuck with very small to nearly flat prospects over the next three days or so.
According to the models, we could have a south change through the place around Christmas eve. If that transpires there is at least the hope of a slight uptick in surf prospects. Looking at the numbers, I’d be hoping for something or other into the waist to chest high range at exposed spots.
It will all be academic for yours truly will be off to the Barossa for a family Christmas. I’ll stay in touch of course, but my pictures may be somewhat less than illuminating of surf conditions.
Have yourself a top old day!

Wahu Surfer Groms Comp: Curly 20.12.9
Posted on December 21st, 2009 in Contests, Curl Curl.I spent a couple of hours at the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp being held on Sunday at Curly. If the performance put in by these groms is any indication then the future of Australian surfing is in good hands! Amazing poise and confidence given their age AND competing under full comp conditions. AWESOME!
Enjoy!
Cheers, Doug

On the road in the homeland
Posted on December 21st, 2009 in New Zealand.Well its been a tough few days with the South Westerly blowing its tits off here on the West Coast. This morning was the first real decent waves that I have seen in 4 days and the sun came out as well. Joy. Nothing beats a nice session at that little known break on the West Coast though. Far from epic but still a hell of alot of fun. Maybe becuase there was only 3 of us in the water for the low tide dawny. Hoping the wind may becoming from the east tom so its fingers crossed here. Seems this once sleepy little fishing village is now on the path to something much bigger – think Byron Bay in training. Only that the waves are better, its colder and you would be hard pressed to find the normal quality and quantity of beautiful people! Other than that its fairly similar – just on a smaller scale. Lots of envion friendly spots to eat and shop. Infact the Volcom shop over here is doing recycled boardshorts – you drop in y old ones and they get sent to Samoa. Nice touch. Its organic everywhere as expected and super tasty as well. A top spot and well worth a short stay if you ever get the chance. I used to hang here 15 years ago and the only thing that seems to have changed is the house prices – another reminder of its big brother of Byron Bay! You can see the view from my accommodation – at $25 a night its a bargain, you also see teh problems one faces on the golf course – sheep everywhere!! Its good to know that you can still catch yourself a decent feed at the local wharf. Nice!…..anyway I am back out there for the high tide session. Have yourselves a great xmas and I will try and post some more photos if I get a chance (nightmare as my wireless is not working anymore). Laters.
