Summertime blues
Posted on December 22nd, 2009 in Big Picture, Dee Why, North Narrabeen.Hello Friends,
Another beautiful morning in Sydney. But it is summer – and we all know what that means. Yes, microness dominates the picture. The best I saw was a briefly knee high set wave at Dee Why. It must have lasted upwards of 2 seconds. But hey, the water’s warm, it’s a glorious morning, there’s last minute shopping to be made even more last minute… what more do you need?
Since the NE wind’s due to push up into the 20-25 kt range by late, you might be in with a chance at your favourite summer windswell spot in the last couple hours of the day.
The next couple days look good for, well, shopping. There might possibly be a little tiny something left over in the morning along the lines of what we saw today.
At least one riff on the forecast data for Christmas Day is showing a little NE windswell perking up in the afternoon. So, after Chrissy lunch, while the cricket is muttering away on TV and the little ones have descended into the glorious sport of annoying one another, you might be able to slip away for an appointment with Mr Huey…
For my part I shall be confined to enjoying the pleasures of the table and watching our flanneled fools making short work of Pakistan. Yes, ’tis the season for our tribe to spend a week in the Barossa with the rels. Of course I’ll be in touch anyway as I should have plenty of time to examine forecast data and speculate thereon for your very good self.
Have yourself a top old day!

Heaven

Sometimes I wonder why I ever left NZ – especially after a morning like today! The wind died last night as the sun was going down making for some fun waves as the size built. This morning the gods were smiling with a brisk offshore and some double over head magic on the sets out at Indicators. Heaven. A few crew on it early but loads of waves to go around. We paddled out just after 5am and were a bit surprised by some of the early sets – yep I took a pounding on a few of them. Indicators is a serious wave and getting caught inside by a big set certainly gives you a pasting. I had several. Its a real life washing machine! Looking good for the rest of day and into tom so if you have nothing to do jump a plane! For those not in the know there are the 3 well known point breaks in a row here – as you can see all very close together. There are also a few other little sections which have there moment in the sun as well. Outsides / Indicators is always the biggest and can be 2 to 3 ft bigger than the Point at Manu. In the middle is Whale Bay – also known as Snail Bay which can have its moments but its got nothing on the other 2 I reckon. I will post some pics of the Point as the tide comes in later on as it should be all time. Have yrselves a great day!
Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on December 22nd, 2009 in Byron.Things are possibly shaping up for a mighty fine summer, surf wise. But will the crowds get too radical to handle? Who knows we witnessed some pretty crazy stuff this evening, only time will tell. Just remember we’re all in this together folks and we’ve all got to get through the summer in one piece. There’s always another wave, always. So take it easy, respect your fellow surfers and let a few go to someone else. Now on a positive note, the way the sand is shaping up, if the weather cooperates. I reckon as far as the surf goes for this summer we ain’t seen nothing yet, In Byron Bay Today.
