Damn Thieves, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on February 18th, 2010 in Byron, Local Colour.Well folks by now you’ve noticed there are only five shots in today’s update of, In Byron Bay Today. So why is that? Well some disgraceful scum of the earth decided to smash the side window of our vehicle and walk away with our primary piece of equipment a Canon 1DMkII,an 8gb card, a 1.4 extender and an L series 300mm lens and of course our shoot for the day. Nice work jerk off, your parents must be so proud, we haven’t paid that off yet. What, did you think that you were ripping off a rich guy? Did it ever cross your mind the effect you’re selfish greed has on the business and lives of two honest hard working underpaid people? No I guess not. Did you consider the effect on the thousands of readers who enjoy our daily labour of love? No I doubt it, thieves think only of themselves they somehow rationalise their twisted anti social behaviour until they genuinely believe that the world owes them something. Well whoever you are you managed to hurt us badly, both financially and emotionally. I hope that brings you some joy. But worst of all, you made my darling little sweety cry, and she’s still crying now. That’s not something I ever take lightly. I’d ask you to bring our gear back, but I seriously doubt you possess the courage required to right this wrong. Oh well, I guess when you decided to screw us and our readers, you were only thinking of yourself and your greed. So I’ll pray for you instead of hunting you, although I’m sorely tempted to hunt.
To our much loved readers and friends, we’re not sure where we go from here, we want to stay live, we want to keep working at this, but right now we’ll have to bring you some of our favourites from the last fourteen months. We ask for your patience while we try to raise the capital to get back into gear. We both hope you continue to grace us with your daily visits. To those who were there when we discovered this theft, thank you for your support. Sorry if it’s all a bit negative folks, but right now we can’t see the good for the thieves, In Byron Bay Today.
Small for the next several days

That’s a wrap
Posted on February 17th, 2010 in At large. We finished the day with one last sesh at 9-iron reef. An hour or so before dark, with the tide on the turn and coming back in, the SEly sea breeze backed right off and the surface cleaned up. The swell is still rawboned and ragged but it’s definitely on the fade down this way. Anyhow… we paddled out for one last taste.
It turned out to be pretty fun. Sets were in the chest high range with the odd bigger one. You couldn’t say it was great, but there were only 4 or 5 of us in the water and sometimes the inside section stood up very nicely thank you.
After the boards were put away and the dry clothes pulled on, there was one last mission to be accomplished – dinner. So it was off to one of my favourite Ulladulla venues, namely the bowlo. Got there just in time too. Steaks and beers and surfed out… wouldn’t be dead for quids said Paul.
And ya wouldn’t!
Go well.

Posted on February 17th, 2010 in Curl Curl, Surf Reports.Curly- 3-4 feet, off/ cross shore and uncrowded. South Curly the pick. Manly 2 feet with the occasional bigger one, crowded and offshore. Freshie- straight, 2-3 feet and bumpy. Just a few punters out. DY- 3 feet, clean and fair crowd in attendance but the pick of the morning. Tide is low and worth a paddle despite the pollution. Not as big as predicted at any beaches but Curly definitely the biggest. Enjoy.

Change Is Coming, In Byron Bay Today
Posted on February 17th, 2010 in Byron. There’s a chill in the water, the air was cooler than usual and the rain, well let’s just say it’s got that autumn feel to it. It’s not as heavy as the sporadic summer downpours. Rather it’s got that autumn tenacity, where it varies in intensity but never quite backs right off. There’s change a coming indeed, in Byron Bay today. We’re not officially into autumn yet, and I’m quite sure we’ll see more summer heat before we settle into the shorter cooler days. But the loggers were out, the waves were small and long, the swell was more from the south then the east. The dolphins were very active; there were heaps of mullet and a few sharks as well. Yup there’s a change a coming. Huey was just letting us know, it’s time to order new rubber and dust off the logs. We had an early little preview of what’s just around the corner, In Byron Bay Today.
Late morning high tide blues
Posted on February 16th, 2010 in At large, Dee Why, Gardens.Hello Friends
Grabbed the water-toy and went looking for something to splash around in this morning. Sadly, the high tide just seemed to be swamping the spots I checked – and those that weren’t swamped were getting the wind treatment in a big way.
Speaking of the wind, the SSW’ly really seems to be holding the very straight south swell off the protected ends of the beaches. Even so, I didn’t see anything impressive in the way of banks at sth Curly, Dee Why or Gardens. I got some pictures, but gee it took awhile. Most of the time it was just shutting down unmakeably.
So, guess I’ll get some work taken care of and then see what lower tide looks like…

Pump it up
Posted on February 16th, 2010 in At large, Dee Why, Gardens, Long Reef.Hello Friends,
South swell has ramped right up overnight and as of around 0800 it was tipping the scales at 4 metres on average with a solid period of 10 seconds. It’s a very straight south, so some places are getting the full energy while not far away (eg the beachy and point at Dee Why) people are getting half as many waves.
The Northy to Collaroy stretch was showing chest to head high plus conditions from about Wetherill St north. However, judging from the small number of bods in, there wasn’t much happening at Northy. There were small numbers scattered in the peaks along the beach south from there. Mostly it wasn’t looking too flash, but there were definitely some solid specimens to be had if you were in the right spot.
Around at Longy there were just a few people chasing lumpy chest to head high things on the inside of the bombies. The real action was from about No Man’s southward. Heaps of people were on it and it looked like there were some tasty sections to be had. The point had its usual contingent, but in the time I watched, nothing much happened for them.
The swell is set to continue, if not increase a bit more, for at least another 24 hours. Wind wasn’t too bad to begin with Tuesday morning, but the Bureau has hoisted the strong wind warnings, so the S-SWly’s set to become a dominant factor as the day unfolds.
According to the latest run of the models it looks as though we should get reasonable size swell of some sort for at least a couple days. Wouldn’t surprise me if the average height didn’t drop below the 2 metre mark until Thursday. Some of the model interpretations are showing a reasonable east pulse arriving late Friday into Saturday, so what with one thing and another, it should be possible to get wet all this week.
Go well with your plans and have yourself a great day. (I plan to return later with a few pics if I can get any)
