Fine, dry and windy on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning.  The swell is smooth & building at 4 – 6 feet from the southeast.  There is a light to moderate southwest breeze at the moment but forecast go south southeast and strengthen later.  Low tide at 0410 and high tide around 1030.  Local barometer 1007 hpa, 20 degrees C. 70% humidity.  Have a good one!


No Surf Rumour, In Byron Bay Today.

Actually it’s not a rumour, there really wasn’t much. But there was more than none. It’s kinda  funny how the rumour of there being no surf in Byron Bay can catch on. Truth is, yes it was really windy, yes it wasn’t huge or all time perfect. But no surf? I don’t know about that. No crowds would be a far more accurate description, and I suspect the lack of crowd was a direct result of the no surf rumour that circulated town this morning. Hmm now there’s a thought, maybe we could start the no surf rumour daily; it seemed to work pretty bloody well in Byron Bay today. But seriously folks, there were a few little waves on offer for the patient in fact some were better than you may think, a tad blowy perhaps, and not very big, but utterly uncrowded and going begging, In Byron Bay Today.


Snaps at high tide in Sydney

Hello friends,

Coming up on high tide and everywhere I looked was fat. However, there’s enough juice in the swell, that when people got a wedgy one, speed wasn’t an issue.

Started by checking the Collaroy-Narra stretch and as with yesterday, there were peaks to be found from the north end to Marquesas. It was dead glassy and shoulder high on the sets.

 

 

TIDES: H @1000, L @1620

Next stop was at Longy and there too, the situation was much the same. I.e., really high tide, inconsistent, dead glassy and shoulder high plus on the sets.

The wind’s due to get up soon from the SW and be into the 20 kt range by this afternoon at exposed spots. From the look of the energy levels off to the south of us, I’m pretty confident that the swell’s not going to fade away today.

 

 


Perking up on Monday morning

Hello Friends,

Huey’s been hammering away in the workshop overnight and he’s rolling out fresh new sets from the ESE for our amusement. Bigger ones are head high and as the day gets started, there isn’t much wind about either. Big question mark over the water quality of course thanks to all that rain.

Have to run an errand atm, so will return later with thoughts about the week ahead… the short version: lookin’ good!

Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:
Strong Wind Warning.
Monday until midnight: Wind: SW 10/15 knots turning S/SW 20/25 knots during the afternoon or evening.Sea: 1 to 2 metres, increasing to 2 to 2.5 metres later. Swell: E/SE 1.5 to 2 metres.
Tuesday: Wind: S/SW 20/30 knots, easing late.Sea: 2 to 3 metres.Swell: S/SE increasing to 2.5 to 3.5 metres.
Wednesday: Wind: S/SE 15/25 knots, easing to 10/15 knots.

 


Mid-afternoon update

Wellllll, I have to differ with The Don on his optimism for the afternoon–had a surf at Narra Point earlier today and by about noontime the sets just stopped coming. Dee Why Point still has the rare set wave but with the interval backing off below 9 seconds,  the world of surf has changed. Only a shadow of what I saw this morning, a nor’east seabreeze is putting some whitecaps on the water and it’s looking all pretty unattractive out front at the moment. Perhaps it’ll come back but I wouldn’t be getting too excited about what I can see for now.

But firsts we have to get by a sloppy choppy Monday of wind an  SW winds that will hopefully go offshore on Tuesday. Buoy data looks like near 4 feet Tuesday morning so it may be worth watching.
