Sunset Sliders, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on March 25th, 2010 in Byron.

The crew from the Noosa Festival and the Malfunction all appeared for a sunset slide, in Byron Bay today. The were nose rides and much stylish dancing going on all over the place, and as a general rule there was much rejoicing. But it’s at times like this that it’s wise to remember our adage. When I surf away from home, I’m in someone else’s home. Just because you’re in comp mode doesn’t make it cool to turn the hassle on the local crew. Be cool people, be respectful and turn the volume down just a tad guys, after all, you want to be welcomed back next year don’t you? Now for those that are waiting on news of the wooden fish that Andrew Wells of Grown Surfboards is building. Andrew has sent us another update. The rail strips are now on; this board is seriously being built from the ground up. For whomever the lucky winner turns out to be, this one’s going to be a gem. On that note, we see the end of another day as we slide off into the sunset, In Byron Bay Today.

Hmmmmm,…I assume the same happened in Sydney today, whereby it was still in the morning, but by lunchtime hte wind was up, the swell was dropping & everything went bumpy

Staying just clear of flatness

Posted on March 24th, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

At half past seven this morning, the MHL buoy was recording a couple metres of 10 sec period south swell. The settings are therefore almost exactly the same as yesterday. So if you found waves on Tuesday, you’ll know where to start looking today.

At Dee Why there were a few folks in the water for the early. But not many. As with yesterday, it looks as though you’ll need to be packing a full load of patience today as the waits are significant.

Wind was light early but the Bureau says we can expect seabreezes (ie 10-15kts) from the SE later. I guess that means we aren’t likely to have the glassy conditions of yesterday morning.

Have yourself a good one!

Pretty uninspiring, weak, waist-high & onshore. Still, you CAN go surfing

The Trim Thing, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on March 24th, 2010 in Byron.

Not the ability to look fabo in your smugglers, although that too is often considered a desirable trait in Byron Bay these days. But rather the talent for understanding what trim is and how and why it works when it’s soft waves in the bay. Today was just one of those days; it was log and fish city in the bay all day. There just wasn’t enough power in it for the little whiteboard set. Those who tried found it very frustrating, the smarter crew hit the open beaches to charge a few onshore sizeable chunky beachies, and word is, although messy the size was fun. Meanwhile in the bay, the loggers came out to play. The girls were really the standouts today. The blokes were onto it too and pulling some sweet lines. But when it’s breaking like this it’s finesse not power that rules and the girls were giving lessons about the trim thing to any who cared to watch, In Byron Bay Today.

On the lines

Posted on March 23rd, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Breeze was lightly offshore when I grabbed the first pic of the day around 0700. There was a small but rideable little line showing at Dee Why beach every now and then. According to the buoy data, it’s primarily out of the south and is a couple of metres at sea with a period of about 9 seconds. Exposed spots should be delivering the odd chest high set. The early morning offshores are set to switch to light onshores from the E to SE before moving around to the NE this afternoon.

Tide is low this morning around 0900 and will be high around 3pm.

Outlook is for the surf settings to stay around this level through to about lunchtime tomorrow. From Wednesday evening there could be an increase in the period and therefore the average size of the waves. Thursday is still looking like being the pick day for the working week.

Have yourself a great Tuesday!
