To take your long board out on some small waves before it falls flat and rain moves in  for Wednesday.

Tiny lines – again

Posted on March 16th, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Glassy start to proceedings this morning in Sydney. And contrary to the wave forecast models, it’s not quite flat. The occasional waist high plus set is briefly standing up on the banks at the south end of the Dee Why to Longy stretch. A small group of early risers were on it too. Swell’s out of the east at about a metre with a period of 8 seconds. That direction should mean little waves of some description at most of the open beaches.

Back in a tick with some thoughts on the outlook.

Tiny tiny tiny. Lovely morning, but wave-wise it’s much the same disappointment as yesterday. Around knee-high & looking pretty weak

Small and Clean

Posted on March 16th, 2010 in Manly.

Smaller than yesterday – its about 1/2 to 1 foot……with a few bigger ones every so often. Best you find something else to do I reckon (unless you are 3 foot tall and weigh under 30kg)  – like drive north – that swell is really looking the goods!  High tide is around 9:30am   Have yourself a great day.

Fine, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning.  The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east southeast.  There is a no breeze at the moment going east northeast later.  High tide at 0930 and low tide around 1540.  Local barometer 1017 hpa, 13 degrees C. 90% humidity.  Have a good one!

Couple Of Big Guys, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on March 16th, 2010 in Byron.

Well there ya go, we’ve got two category four cyclones, sitting about 1200 km’s offshore in Byron Bay today. There’s one sitting over near Fiji, I sincerely hope for their sake it doesn’t make landfall. There’s another steaming south west from The Solomon’s towards us. If it follows its current course things could get pretty hairy around here. In the worst case scenario, if this couple of big guys hook up and double up? Well mental images of George Clooney in a long line fishing boat come to mind. However at the moment that doesn’t look likely. But just in case here’s a little warning for the less experienced surfers amongst us. Cyclone swells are not like your average storm surf guys; they tend to be much thicker, which means more power, larger waves in the impact zone and very dangerous currents. If it gets big towards the end of this week, which it very possibly could, remember where this swell came from and treat it with the appropriate respect, In Byron Bay Today.

The tinyness returns

Posted on March 15th, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

The Ides of March are upon us and the surf situation this morning does not bode well Sydneysiders. Our swell has dropped away overnight and when I grabbed the pic around 0715, the joint was empty. Quite a contrast to yesterday when the junky conditions didn’t deter a reasonable size crowd from getting amongst it.

Latest info from the MHL Sydney buoy indicates that the energy is coming from the east. It’s showing about a metre out at sea with a power setting of about 8 seconds. Wind is lightly offshore as we kick off, but it should go around to a NE seabreeze later.

Sadly, the models don’t hold much joy for our region. On current reckoning it seems we’re in for a week of tiny to flat conditions. Meanwhile, up the coast it shows every sign of PUMPING. Grrr. Envy! From Angourie to Agnes Waters looks like the place to be all this week.

Go well wherever you may find yourself today!

Dee Why Evening Update

Posted on March 15th, 2010 in Surf Reports.

Dee Why trying to dish up a wave now and again but unfortunately, this is about as good as it gets.  Had a surf on the Point last night just on dark and got just about eaten alive by blue bottles and purple people eaters.  NASTY. Reckon got about 20 stings in less than an hour. Apparently, they are just about everywhere. Go away nasty bst$rds!

Hmmm,…..not a lot of yesterday’s energy apparent this morning, though maybe that’s the tide’s fault. No-one out in the clean fat waist-high (yet)
