Woo-hoo! Waves for the last of the holiday weekend
Posted on April 26th, 2010 in Big Picture, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
At last, some energy. This morning the MHL buoy shows the Sydney region doing about the best of anywhere along the coast as what looks to be a relatively brief south pulse lights the joint up. According to the data it’s averaging 3 metres out at sea on a respectable 10-11 seconds.
I watched the point and beach at Dee Why for awhile and it seemed relatively setty. Average size was around the chest high range, but I did see a couple wave faces that would’ve been overhead for most of us.
Bunches of bods in the water at the point and along the beach where the stiff and cold SW’ly is holding them up pretty nicely. It looks as though the swell should stick around for about a 24 hours. The wind is going to be a factor though. The southwesterly is going to swing south to SE this afternoon, before fading in the evening.
Get out there and enjoy!

Posted on April 26th, 2010 in Top stories.A very welcome swell greeted surfers this morning in Sydney which was definitely a relief for the organisers of the Beachley Classic who managed to complete all the remaining rounds today with Steph Gilmore claiming this year’s crown.
The punters were also very happy particularly the ones I shot at Curly early this morning. There was something for everyone and you can see for yourself here http://www.wozthatyou.com/group7759.html as Huey delivered some nice size at fairly regular intervals.
It was an excellent day for a long weekend Monday so I hope you were able to get out there and enjoy it.
Cheers, Doug
No surf Monday, maybe Tuesday?
Posted on April 26th, 2010 in South Carolina.Very hard 30 mph winds from the WSW Monday will blow down a lot of swell or blow you out to sea if you try to get in the water. We see a more likely West wind under 10 mph for Tuesday so you may have to wait one more day.

Posted on April 26th, 2010 in Surf Reports.Pretty much the opposite of the past week. Headhigh swell is rolling into the spots that like it from the south, and the wind is currently SW (though due to go SE before the end of the day). Dee Why isn’t getting much of it, but Curly & Freshy are getting plenty!
It Ain’t Serious Folks, In Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Review.
Posted on April 26th, 2010 in Byron. It seems this was the week people chose to share their views and advice. Now we’re open to feedback although we’ll never have time to answer them all, and many were friendly and interesting. A few however were borderline abusive, most of them were about what type of surfer and surf craft should or shouldn’t be shown, within our In Byron Bay Today website. So let’s put this one to bed folks. We call it as we see it, occasionally gently, sometimes politically incorrect, and at other times downright irreverent. We show what we’re into it, if we’re not into it, we don’t show it. It’s a very simple recipe, and for the thousands that visit our site every week, it’s a recipe that seems to work just fine for them and for that we’re grateful. In Byron Bay Today is not a news paper, nor a surfing magazine or a political platform. We don’t claim to be fair, unbiased, or particularly open to carrying other people’s political agendas for them. We do claim to be free for you to enjoy or ignore as you see fit. We do this as a labour of love for our readers who enjoy the way we see it, it ain’t meant to be serious folks, In Byron Bay Today.
No waves for Anzac Day this year
Posted on April 25th, 2010 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
No need to include the board in your plans today. The ocean is about as flat as it can get. According to the latest data from the MHL buoy off Sydney, it’s averaging a billiard table 0.3 metres from the SE. Been quite awhile since I’ve seen a number quite that unimpressive.
The latest run of the models and the current marine forecast agree that we should see a south pulse late today and into tomorrow. As of 0830 this morning the Eden buoy had bumped up from around 1-2 metres yesterday to 1.5-3m. Average period is very weak at only 5 seconds, but there’s some 8 second component in amongst it, so if that gets up our way, it could just bump into the waist high range for tomorrow morning.
Looking ahead, the prospects are fairly unimpressive. After the little south pulse, it looks like it’ll drop back to flat in the middle of the week before gradually picking up into the just barely surfable range by next weekend.
My plan is to be on surfari up the coast from tomorrow. Looks like we’ll be using the mals most of the time…
Have yourself a great day!

ANZAC Day – Lest We Forget
Posted on April 25th, 2010 in Comment, Site News.95 years ago, our diggers stormed a beach. Because of their heroism we can continue to do so today with freedom. Lest we forget.

O’Neill Gromtag, Avalon Beach – 18 Apr 2010
Posted on April 25th, 2010 in Top stories. The O’NEILL Gromtag comp was held under beautiful conditions last Sunday with Avalon Beach serving up excellent waves for competitors to show off their stuff.
It was an intense day of competition for these young surfers eventually won by Werri Beach with North Narra a close second.
You can check out all the action here http://www.wozthatyou.com/group8586.html

Please, Sir, I Want Some More (Sharks/The Hook)
Posted on April 25th, 2010 in California, Half Moon Bay, Surf Sessions.I started off on the shoulder at the crowded Hook, but wasn't getting much joy. Then as I paddled back to the lineup, calculating how to stay out of the way of a longboarder on a wave, a shortboarder dropped in on him, right in front of me. Collision apparently imminent, I dove under and rolled my board over as a shield, in the process having my first hard snog with Magic. All three of us ended up in the water but fortunately the only damage done was to my lip, bloodied once again. Too bad my helmet doesn't have a mouth guard. I got in a few more little rides at the Hook before I decided to try my luck with the smaller and mellower group of longboarders at Sharks.
After dropping off my wetsuit at Hotline on the Westside for repair, I took the scenic route home along the coast. The west-facing breaks were messy with wind. Kitesurfers were out in force at Waddell and windsurfers flew like half-submerged butterflies past Davenport.
Surfline: Clean, workable waves on tap this afternoon. Expect waist-chest-shoulder high surf on average, while top spots hit head high on occasion. Wind is light with generally smooth surface conditions. Buoy 46012: 7.9 ft @ 16.7 sec.
Need to get past the 24 hours of bad weather
Posted on April 25th, 2010 in South Carolina.Expect rain and thunderstorms which could be severe for Sunday. Monday morning may have a slight chance for a morning surf.
