Fine, dry and mild on the Central Coast this Tuesday morning.  The swell is smooth and small at 1 – 2 feet from the east southeast.  The breeze is spinning around the compass points again today. There is a light northwest breeze forecast to go southwest then northeast later.  Low tide at 0645 and high tide around 1240.  Local barometer 1019 hpa, 14 degrees C. 95% humidity.  Have a good one!

Up In Smoke, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on April 20th, 2010 in Byron.

So what went down at Wategos last night? I woke this morning to the phone buzzing its way across the coffee table, onto the carpet and across the living room floor. Who, what, where? Everyone wanted to know, did I know what happened at Wategos’ last night, and did I have pictures of the blaze? Well no I don’t, I was happily hooking into a Curry when all hell was breaking loose over the hill at Watego’s. So I thought I’d better grab the camera and scoot over for a sticky beak this morning. Yup it is as they all said; two multimillion dollar McMansions were utterly incinerated. I mean burnt to the ground, roofs down, the lot. I suspect I’d be pissed if I owned them, but I don’t. I reckon the real story here is just how lucky the other folks are that the fire fighters managed to contain the blaze to just two homes. Great job guys, it could have been so much worse. That entire valley is full of dead Bitou Bush that got sprayed some time back. It hasn’t been removed and it’s some serious fuel for a fire. If that inferno had been allowed to spread into the bush, then one of Australia’s most expensive little patches of real estate could have all gone up in smoke, oh yeah nice waves for a slide or two, but nothing too flash, In Byron Bay Today.

Little again

Hello Friends,

Small to very small looking where Dee Why’s concerned this morning. Swell appears to be weakly out of the S-SE. There’s a distinct line, but when I checked for the first time today, no one appeared to be in the water at the Dee Why end of the beach.

Looks like a rather nice day coming up though.

The latest run of the WAMs is pointing toward a week of marginal to near flat conditions along much of the NSW coast. The best zone seems to be on the far north coast, where there should be a steady supply of cloudy skies and chest high windswell.

I’ll try to get out and about at some point today, so with luck I’ll return with news of some sort later.

Go well with your day!

on sunday at 4 pm: almost flat at our rivermount point, with just a few long, shapely, mini-lines, around the shoreline – the gatekeeper at the campground confirmed dolefully that there has been no surfing for a week, but that there was some hope for a swell, middle of the coming week…. – under these conditions, it is unlikely to be better at the lost village point, another 40 minutes further, and it would be necessary to venture at least to the mouth of the straits, another 40 minutes onward – at tofino, cox bay, conditions look small, 1 – 2 foot, but steady and shapely, and looks like only one determined surfer, not doing well, but probably more lurking …. – they are spoilt up there – please stay tuned …. twitter mercuryloge \,,/

Lovely day for a swim. Bringing a board could provide extra challenges, though, as the swell is weak & knee-high

Sunday Sanctuary, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on April 19th, 2010 in Byron.

Well folks that’s it, it’s all over bar the shouting, there’s a student free day on Monday, but that’s it for the autumn school holidays in Byron Bay today. It’s always a time of mixed emotions as the holidays come to an end. On one hand it’s cool to see the young local surfers in the lineup every day, and we always manage to bump into a few old friends and make a few new ones in the bay during the holidays. But on the other hand, after several weeks, of waiting for car spaces and being dropped in on, in the surf. Well a lot of folks breathe a sigh of relief as it all winds down to a more normal pace. It’s just one of those things I suppose. If you enjoy the good side you got to accept the other stuff that comes with it. The bay was actually reasonably quiet for a Sunday today. Kind of a Sunday Sanctuary one could say. Most of the holiday lets go from Saturday to Saturday, so many visitors were already on their way home from the bay. However don’t settle into the quiet just yet, it’s the Anzac Day long weekend next week, I suspect we’ll see the bay fill up pretty quickly this coming Friday afternoon. In the mean time, there are some nice slides to be had, the crowds have backed off a tad, and there was much rejoicing, In Byron Bay Today.

A small but sunny Sunday morning in Sydney

Posted on April 18th, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

There’s not much difference in the swell settings from yesterday so, in theory, you should be able to find waves where you found them on Saturday. However, it looks a fair bit smaller to me at Dee Why. Where yesterday there were people at the point, this morning no one was on it and there were only a few bods up the beach toward No Mans where the biggest wave I saw was about waist high.

Swell is out of the SSE at a reasonable 10-13 seconds apart, but it’s only a metre at sea, so I think we can expect longish lulls between the reasonable waves.

Back a bit later with some thoughts on the outlook…

Some pretty ordinary-looking waist-high lumps & bumps dribbling into Curly. Plenty of keen bods snapping ‘em up, though!

Try the morning

May be some wind waves in the calm of the morning around 3 feet Sunday. NE winds under 15 mph move in Sunday and monday so no improvement is expected.
