On the fade for Sunday
Posted on July 25th, 2010 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Dropped overnight as expected, so this morning you’ll be doing well to score anything much above the waist high mark. Swell is out of the SE though, so that should help. Average height at sea as the day got started was just a touch over a metre with an average period of about 9 seconds.
Your best bet is to get out there this morning rather than leaving it until later. General outlook is for it to stay around this level for the coming week, although tomorrow looks like being near flat on current reckoning…
Find yourself a fun one or two and go well with your day!

A Saturday with waves…whadya know
Posted on July 24th, 2010 in Cooks Tce, Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Since I have Canon’s schmick 5D MkII and a 100-400mm lens to test (good being a photo mag editor!) at the moment, I wandered around looking for waves to take pictures of. Found some at Cooks Tce where a small group were basically risking board and limb to get into some very crunchy sections. Shutdown percentage was very high, so even after 45 minutes, I didn’t have all that many snaps to show for my efforts. The light went flat and the shutdowns seemed to be around the 9 out of 10 mark, so I came back to the office to process the results. Here’s a sample from what will eventually be a gallery…

EARLIER I WROTE:
If you were up for the early this morning, you were in with an excellent chance of scoring something at your favourite SE spot. Basically if you got waves there yesterday, go back again because Huey’s pretty much left the settings unchanged since yesterday. At Dee Why that means somewhat setty conditions but the big ones are getting into the shoulder high range at least. And while there was a shower headed toward it while I looked, the wind wasn’t a factor.
As the Goat’s forecast noted, we should see the swell gradually run out of puff over the next 24 hours. Go now if you can because it currently looks as though we’ve got a week of marginal conditions coming up.
Have yourself a good one!

PICS: Saturday morning cooking at Cooks

Looked around for somewhere to photograph on Saturday morning before it clouded over and ended up tramping down to the sands of Cooks Terrace. A crew was having a lash at the heavily shutting down conditions. Every now and then a wave would come through so I popped off a few frames with a Canon 5D MKII and a Nikon D90. As usual, click on the image and you’ll be taken to a full size version. To make it yours, look for the “add to cart” link at the top when you get there.

PICS: Gallery of Dee Why point, Fri 23 July 2010

After getting my share of waves in the morning, I grabbed the Canon 5D MK II and the 100-400mm for some shooting off the rocks at Dee Why point. And here’s a gallery of the snaps I got of people having fun on Sydney’s northern beaches on a winter’s day…

Went for a surf at the point on Friday morning and took the Panasonic FT1 with me to grab a few snaps. Sets were okay too. Just jump to the page to see ‘em, and remember if you want to buy a shot, just double click the pic and look for the add to cart link at the top.

Still some swell but not the best wind conditions
Posted on July 24th, 2010 in South Carolina.I see a repaet of the last several days. Good in the AM and about mid day, the wind will slack a bit before kicking up near 15 mph around 1-2 in the afternoon. And IF a storm comes up, it will quiet the Ocean surface. Watch out for the Jellies.

Posted on July 24th, 2010 in Surf Reports. An abundance of short period stuff means I’d be checking beachbreaks rather than rocky bottoms. Waves at the exposed spots are up to headhigh at times, and there’s currently no wind
Posted on July 24th, 2010 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.
Patchy cloud and mild on the Central Coast this Saturday morning. The swell is smooth at 2 – 3 feet from the east southeast. There is a light west southwest breeze forecast to go south southeast later. High tide at 0710 and low tide around 1240. Local barometer is 1022 Kpa it is 10 degrees and 94% humidity. Have a good weekend.
Late arvo thoughts
Posted on July 23rd, 2010 in Big Picture, Dee Why.After holding off until around 1300, the southerly started to fill in along Sydney’s beaches. As the day ends, the swell is still around the two metre mark at sea with an average period of 9 seconds. It’s SE and we’re getting some okay size sets every now and then thanks to some rogue 11 second period stuff. According to the Bureau the energy should stick around overnight and with luck tomorrow will be something of a repeat of today with light winds for the early and a couple metres of 8-9 sec S-SE swell.
I got in the water at the point this morning and as a consequence will have some water snaps to post as a gallery later. Set waves were kinda fun, but we had to wait around a bit and there was a pretty fair crowd on it. I put this down to the fact that Dee Why was probably about the only reasonable wave from Manly to Mona Vale. Anyway, after I got out I did a bit more shooting with a Canon 5D MkII and the 100-400mm lens that I have on test at the moment. A real nice bit of kit, but then it’d want to be for the $5k price tag. When I get the pic files all processed, I’ll load them to a gallery.
Hope you’ve had a great week and are looking forward to a top old weekend!
