Waves this morning

Posted on July 23rd, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

We have waves again this morning. Swell has moved more around to the SE and while on average the settings are about the same as yesterday (ie 2 metres at 8 sec), there are a few 11 second interval waves in the mix. Those longer period sets were delivering the occasional shoulder to head high wave faces at Dee Why for the early risers.

The wind was west to NW as Friday got started, but the Bureau says it should move around into the southern quarters as the day unfolds. Tide was high early and will bottom out around noon. So, all and all, not a bad looking recipe for finding something to surf this morning.

Have yourself a top old day!

Stir Crazy, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on July 23rd, 2010 in Byron.

There’s no doubt about it, it’s been a stunningly beautiful week thus far. But we’ve all been freezing while waiting for the swell to build as it’s been totally flat in the bay. Not anymore, finally today we started to see some consistent lines sweeping past the cape, in Byron Bay today. Not to a moment too soon either, as judging by the looks on some folk’s faces, a week of cold weather and zero swell had a few people getting a little stir crazy in and around the bay. Thankfully that all came to an end today, ok so it wasn’t huge. However it was rideable, and at several spots too, which split the crowd up nicely for those that got out amongst it today, and so there was much rejoicing, albeit cold rejoicing, In Byron Bay Today.

A handful of bods at Cronulla Pt getting the occasional shoulder-high ride, but the real goods are to be had at Nth Cronulla, where two lots of high school sport groups are nailing most of the headhigh peelers

Dee Why: A few waves, a bit of a crowd, and COLD!

Posted on July 23rd, 2010 in Surf Reports.

A definite bite in the air with that westerly blowing this morning and the balcony thermometer showing only 11C with direct sunlight at 0730. Still, there are a few waves on the Point but the direction is making it a bit less than perfect with a few shutdown sections amongst a few decent sets.

Posted on July 23rd, 2010 in Central Coast, Surf Reports.

Overcast and mild on the Central Coast this Friday morning. The swell is smooth at 2 – 4 feet from the east southeast.  There is a light west southwest breeze forecast to go more south later.  High tide at 0625 and low tide around 1155. Local barometer is 1024 Kpa it is 9 degrees and 84% humidity.  Have a good weekend.

How cold was it this morning?

Posted on July 22nd, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

7 degrees at 0800 said the radio. Add in a steady westerly and it feels even colder. The bitter conditions haven’t put people off getting in the water at Dee Why point. Those tough customers are scoring the odd fun if not too powerful looking set waves for their trouble.

Swell at sea has jumped up to 3 metres. It still coming from the south and the average period is around the 8 second mark. According to the MHL data, the Sydney region seems to be getting the best of the available energy. With luck the models will be right and the swell will push up a touch more through tomorrow. But it looks like the wind is set to be southerly with it, so that in itself will limit the number of options.

The latest long range outlook is showing a gradual decline toward small to flat for the Sydney region as we head into next week. That pesky high over the continent is sitting down pretty low and it’s deflecting the southern ocean swell makers away from the east coast’s swell window. Worse, it looks as though the high is going to move over the lower Tasman sea in the next few days. Not a good thing for our prospects over the next 7-10 days sadly. Hope I’m wrong…

Go well with your day!

Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards:

Friday: Wind: Southerly 10 to 20 knots decreasing to 10 to 15 knots around dawn then increasing to 10 to 20 knots during the morning. Winds 10 to 15 knots around midday.Sea: Up to 1.5 metres.Swell: Southeasterly 2 to 3 metres.
Saturday: Wind: South to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending east to southeasterly up to 10 knots during the evening.

Dee Why: Tide too low for the Point. Beachie not bad but southerly is coming up.

Posted on July 22nd, 2010 in Surf Reports.

Point wasn’t bad early on — had a quick surf around 8 but tide has now dropped too much and stuffed it. Beachie probably better but a southerly wind is just about to mess it all up soon.

The only chance is the morning

Posted on July 22nd, 2010 in South Carolina, Surf Reports.

With the passing of the storms last night the wind laid down for the first time in two weeks!. Light to no winds are expected in the early AM so while the 3 foot is small, and weak, it may be your only chance.

Nowt happening at Harbord, but plenty of crunchy headhigh stuff pouring into Curl Curl. That wind is brisk though so be prepared for some long cold waiting time between rides
