There are some little waves at Longy out in front of the lagoon still this morning.  A small pod of dolphins wanted to share was well.  1 – 1.5 foot.  Wind gusting from NW.

Striking Distance, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 27th, 2010 in Byron.

No real swell just yet, but I can’t help feeling that there may something just within range real soon, in Byron Bay today. The westerlies are still howling through town, and it’s flat in the bay. Yet the open beaches are starting to show signs of life, enough to start thinking about dusting off a stick and maybe go get wet just for the sake of it. One thing can be said about this weather, it sure is beautiful. We may all be getting a little wave starved, but the skies are clear, the water’s crystal. It’s a good time to stroll the beaches and look for new banks, perhaps a spot that may be pulling a little more swell than elsewhere. Because when the new swell hits, it’s nice to know which banks will be within easy striking distance, In Byron Bay Today.

Dee Why: Afternoon update–wind is stronger, surf is still at absolute zero

Steady small swell for the next couple of days.

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in South Carolina.

Drag those long boards out and soon change over to short boards come this weekend as 4-5 feet are expected as Hurricane Danielle passes east of Bermuda. Plus a second tropical wave behind Danielle looks favorable for development. These storms have mixed surf results but the slower and bigger they are, the more likely we will see surf above 5 feet. So stay tuned to weather stations for your area.

One more tiny day and then…

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

In Sydney and can’t surf today? Not to worry, it’s still pretty much flat. The tiny swell is out of the south. It was around the 0.75 metre mark on average out at sea, and the average period was just 7 seconds (with some 10 sec component in amongst it). For what it’s worth, the wind is due to be pretty strong from the west, so what little energy is coming toward the coast today won’t be helped much.

It’s sunny now, but set to cloud up later.

Now for the good news. This morning’s WAM data is (still) looking very promising for the weekend. With luck the festivities will get underway before dark tomorrow. If the predictions (which haven’t changed much for a few days now) are correct, the Sydney region is looking at punchy south swell arriving overnight Friday and gradually strengthening into the 3 metre range by Saturday evening. Sunday looks good to me and on the latest reckoning, Monday could still be pretty fun too. I’m looking forward to the Goat’s take on this… tell us it will be good o guts-gazer!

Impromptu Air Show, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in Byron.

No one could deny that apart from a few short bursts of swell, it’s been a pretty flat winter in Byron Bay. This last week has been no exception thanks to the strong westerly airflow. So when the crew awoke this morning to find a nice little pulse southerly wind swell driving into the ocean side, there was much rejoicing indeed. Everyone got so amped up at the prospect of a little bit of power under their feet. That it soon turned into an impromptu air show, as the crew started frothing, In Byron Bay Today.
