Dee Why 230pm update: Pretty ordinary…

Posted on September 26th, 2010 in Surf Reports.

Well, yesterday’s swell is all but done and dusted. Not much going on at Dee Why. Despite the anemic conditions, there’s a pretty thick crowd of a dozen or so out there having a crack at it. BIG thanks to Don for loaning me his old digital SLR kit for a while!

Weirdly, the buoys are saying there’s plenty of energy out there, but the beach is saying little stuff is going “plop” on the shore

Dee Why: Summer!

Posted on September 26th, 2010 in Surf Reports.

Seems summer has arrived with a vengeance today. Small waves, bright sunshine and Dee Why is mobbed.

After yesterday’s trek to the central coast and scoring some 3X O/H offshore reef breaks, it seems like a different planet being back in Dee Why today. About a dozen big-foam riders at the Point getting the odd chest high set and the usual summer crowd up the beach toward Longy. Nothing to get too excited about but, hey, that summer waves in Sydney!

Off-topic here–anyone need a free fax/phone/digital answering machine? Going to the tip unless someone speaks up. It’s about 10 yrs old, Panasonic. Works great; even got a couple rolls of thermal paper for it. Email me at fax@kitesurfing.com.au if you’re interested. It’s in Dee Why for pickup.

It looks big but its not.

Posted on September 26th, 2010 in Longy.

Another beautiful morning down at Longy this morning.  The back bombie is breaking very ocassionaly which gives an impression if you first saw it, that there is a bit of size there.  But theres no size what so ever.  2 – 3 foot on the beach with the back bombie breaking at 4 foot.  Wind light from the west.  Waves on the inside bombie and a right out in front of the lagoon.  Some small banks down the beach.  All affected by light rips from the out going water.  Get out there.

Saturday fun day

Posted on September 25th, 2010 in Big Picture, Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Beautiful Saturday morning in Sydney and as an extra bonus, we have a few small SSE waves too. Nothing big, but the period was a reasonable 11 seconds or so and that means the occasional chest high set turning up at spots such as Dee Why that like the swell direction. The models say that the swell should pick up a little as the day goes along, so with luck, by lunch there could be the odd head high bomb at the exposed spots.

Outlook is for the swell to fade overnight and leave us only a few minor scraps tomorrow. It then looks as though next week will be pretty small to flat until the next pulse comes in around Wednesday.

So get out and enjoy your Saturday!
