Central Coast Saturday

Posted on September 25th, 2010 in Surf Reports.

What a difference a couple hours drive can make. Got up at 530 this morning and bolted to the Central Coast with Brendon. Arrived at Pelicans around 0800 and it was firing. 1.5X O/H sets and glassy-as. Paddled out, got a few and then it got messy and rippy pretty quick and the size backed right off. Had a quick feed and drove south, checking all the beaches along the way –Toowoon Bay: Not bad but slow and ordinary; Bateau Bay: Nah; Shelly: not doing it; Forresters: Whoa. Inside at Banzi was hollow and spitting; out the back at the Left was going off big time with the odd set cranking out the 3X overhead reef wave with sometimes frightening bursts of power; other side of the reef the right also firing; even the right up the North end of the beach rideable and no one out.  Had only a phone camera with me and ones I took turned out pretty average.  Mellow crowds, great waves and offshore for most of the day. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Sorry about the crappy quality.( iPhone photo.) This place breaks about 400m offshore.

Pics from Mid to South Curly Today (830-945am)

Posted on September 25th, 2010 in Top stories.

I just posted some pics taken at Curly this morning. The forecasted stellar swell conditions unfortunately did not materialise today but despite this there was still a bit of fun to be had out there this morning. See for yourself here http://www.wozthatyou.com/portfolio120852.html

Hope you had a good one.

Cheers, Doug

Surf Photos of U Long Reef Bombie 10.30 – 11.30am 25 Sept

Posted on September 25th, 2010 in Top stories.

I was checking out the bomie at Long Reef at about 10.30 and got some pics of those surfers that were catching the rights and lefts off the bombie between 10.30 and 11.35am.  Go to; Surf Photos of You Surf Gallery.  Not a bad little wave until the NE got stronger. Have a look.

High tide was making it pretty fat when I was there around 9.30ish. First sign of bluebottles & first springy session too, but I wish I’d packed a longboard. Some of the bigger ones might have been almost headhigh

Long Reef smaller 1 – 2 foot.

Posted on September 25th, 2010 in Longy.

Beautiful morning down at Long Reef with hardly any breeze or waves.  Plenty of surfers though.  Glassy conditions but the NE wind was just starting to make an appearance (7.10am).  Swell still from the SE but has dropped considerably from yesterday to be around 1 – 2 foot.  Most surfing 3 major spots; bombie, a right hand bank out in front of the tower and down the beach there are a few banks.  Have a great day.  Surf Photos of You

Clean little sets this morning

Posted on September 24th, 2010 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Over a week of waves now. Not bad for Spring. This morning opened with a touch under two metres of 11 second south swell, light offshores and sunny skies. Reasonable, but not extreme, number of bods in the water at Dee Why with waves at both the point and along the beach. Given the size of the sets, there should be a fair few options around Sydney’s south swell spots.

With luck the waves should stick around for another 24 hours.

Go well and stay happy!

3 – 4 foot at Longy early.

Posted on September 24th, 2010 in Longy.

Longy had some nice waves all along the beach early this morning.  The Bombie  was about 3 foot but the tide was high and the waves were hard to get.  There were nice waves down the beach out in front of the lagoon.  Nice conditions with a light NW wind and very clean glassy surface.  Waves may hang around all morning  but is suppose to drop this afternoon.  If you can get down there now, jump in your car.  Wind to turn NE this arvo. Enjoy.

Grey, small and messy this morning

Posted on September 23rd, 2010 in Big Picture, Dee Why.

Afternoon update:
Not much interesting going on at Dee Why or Curly when I checked while running an errand this afternoon. It’s not flat, but the swell’s definitely smaller and flabbier than it’s been since this time last week. Wind isn’t helping either. Tomorrow looks like being smaller again, but with better wind prospects. Could be worth a look for the early at spots that like a south swell, NW wind combo…

Hello Friends,

The vernal equinox dawned grey and onshore for Sydney. From now until next March, the days will be longer than the nights. Summer is rolling toward us kids. Not that it’s very summery today. Swell is still out of the south this morning and still around the two metre mark. The average period peaked briefly in the 12 second range around lunchtime yesterday but has now dropped back to 10 seconds. There’s some 13 second component in amongst it, so assuming it’s coming from the same direction, that would mean the odd bigger set. For the most part it’s around the waist to chest high range and pretty messy thanks to the 5-10kts of SE wind.

The Bureau says the wind will swing around through the east to the north east later, so maybe there’ll be something in the semi-exposed north corners this afternoon. It’s supposed to stay cloudy all day and there’s a chance of showers this morning.

Happily, the outlook on the models is for another couple of small south pulses – one tomorrow and one Saturday before we enter what looks to be a few days of marginal to flat conditions.

Your correspondent will by that stage be focused on the prospects of a wave at Huntington pier as I’m making a trip to see my family in the US. Expect a few soCal flavoured reports while I’m there!

Have yourself a top old day and get up to some good on the way through if you can.

Weather Situation from the Bureau

A weak trough on the central NSW coast will move slowly north today as a high over the Bight extends a ridge to the south coast.
Forecast for Thursday until midnight

Winds: South to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots becoming southeasterly up to 10 knots around midday then tending east to northeasterly later in the evening. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Southerly about 2 metres.
Forecast for Friday

Winds: North to northwesterly 5 to 10 knots tending north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots around midday then tending north to northwesterly 10 to 20 knots later in the evening. Seas: Below 1 metre increasing up to 1.5 metres later in the evening. Swell: Southerly 1.5 metres.
Forecast for Saturday

Winds: West to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending southeast to southwesterly up to 10 knots during the afternoon then tending northeast to southeasterly during the evening. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Southerly 1.5 metres.

SE wind up very early (4am)

Posted on September 23rd, 2010 in Longy.

Surf Photos of You.

A strong SE wind has been blowing since around 4. This has caused Long Reef to be very messy right up and down the beach towards Dee Why.  Although there were a few brave souls out.  The swell has dropped to 2 – 3 foot.  But it is very sloppy.  Find a protected southern corner today.  Enjoy.

Lumpy Bits, In Byron Bay Today

Posted on September 23rd, 2010 in Byron.

Well there you go, just as we were getting used to some nice clean lines and much needed sunshine. Huey decides to swing the wind back onshore and bring the rain into play yet again, in Byron Bay today. That’s spring for you, however that didn’t stop many of the crew from turning up for a few late arvo slides, bumpy though it may be. After all there’s still some nice swell on offer and when all is said and done. Lumpy bits are better than no bits, In Byron Bay Today.
