An afternoon sesh at Northy

Hello Friends

Bit of an afternoon update for ya. Got tired of staring at the computer and decided I was gonna get wet no matter what. Tossed up between Curly and Northy and ended up going to the latter. Got there and found that the wind had, as expected, pushed up a small and junky little wind swell. Nothing to write home about, but when I rocked up there were around 20 people in the water.

A few minutes later I was paddling out to join ’em. Yikes! There were some cold patches in the ocean. Glad I had the springy on. Got out the back and went into the wind swell zone – you know the deal, just sitting there thinking thoughts and waiting for something with a trough in front of it. Every once in awhile one such would appear and it wasn’t long before I jagged myself a sample. Although slow, the low tide was giving them a little more push so if you were in the right spot it was sorta like regular surfing. If not… well, then it was mush riding.

Funny thing happened too. The crowd just sorta melted away until there were only two or three of us sitting on the outside peak at any given moment. Sunny afternoon, little waves and one of the world’s most famous beaches was looking like some kind of secret spot up/down the coast. Gotta love it when that happens.

After hooking into a couple funish rights I picked up a relatively long left and headed in. As I got out and looked up the beach there were half a dozen others getting out as well. We left Northy very uncrowded.

Driving home it was nice and warm. My skin was kinda tight from the salt and they were just going to tea at the cricket with us and the poms pretty evenly poised.

Felt like summer.
