La Nina skies, La Nina waves

Hello Friends,

What a grey old summer it’s been. More rain overnight, more cloudy skies this morning and only a trickle of weak south wind swell. It’s definitely not flat, but anything above the waist to chest high zone is a rare event where Dee Why was concerned early.

The outlook is for the onshore to pick up as the day goes along but the swell’s set to stay around the same size. Certainly there’s nothing obvious in the way of improvement to size being hinted at by the buoy data or being predicted by the latest run of the models.

From the shape of the aforementioned forecasts, it would seem that the next couple days are likely to be fairly ho-hum. Some interpretations of the data reckon we might see a bit of a s-sse pulse develop as we run into the weekend. If they prove correct, there could be 10sec + metre to metre plus energy at south swell spots. Friday arvo could be fun if the swell does arrive because the wind call is NE.

Looking out much further into the middle of next week, the models are showing Huey stirring the pot out to the ENE of NZ. As usual, I don’t get too excited at this early stage, but I like the shape of the fetch being predicted by the super computers. If it happens, I’d say there’s a good chance of substantial and sustained east swell for northern NSW and Qld. The fetch will need to tilt a bit more to the south west to fire juice our way though.

Anyway, all good fun.

Thanks again to all who’ve participated in the anonymous post code survey. We’re inching toward what I hope will be a statistically significant set of numbers. I hope that will be useful to us when we go hunting for advertising income to keep this joint afloat.

Have yourself a top old day!
