Simple Moments, In Byron Bay Today
Posted on March 24th, 2011 in Byron.
What can I say; the wind went around to a wintery kind of direction producing some simply joyous moments where most of the crew had not anticipated it, in Byron Bay today. For those who bothered to look, there were some sweet peaks of a reasonable size, crystal clear water, small crowds, and a whole lot people smiling happily in the knowledge that they had just scored few simple moments of uncrowded bliss, In Byron Bay Today.
Pumping
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
It’s pumping at east swell spots, so take care if you’re heading out. Looks like a morning of solid swell coming up. The wind is set to be light offshore, it’s sunny and there’s two metres of cleaned up 10 second east swell pushing in. You really should be spoiled for choices this morning. Wind is expected to go NE in the afternoon, but with luck it won’t be too hard. As the sun leaves the eastern horizon behind, it looks as though we’re in for a great day of surf.
From the shape of the forecast models, this is peak day and by this afternoon the models show the swell starting to drop away. With luck it’ll be a slow process and we’ll still have plenty of fun for tomorrow as well.
I went shooting at North Narra yesterday, so I’ll have lots to share later on. However, if it goes well, I’ll get some more pics today to add to the collection.
Have a good one and check back later as I plan to update.
Go well!

Weather Situation
A low pressure system lies over Bass Strait with a trough to a second weaker low over the Tasman Sea. These systems are producing a fairly moist west to southwest airstream over NSW with showers about the western slopes of the ranges and in the south. The low pressure area is expected to move slowly to the south over the next few days with a high pressure ridge gradually becoming established over NSW.

PICS: North Narrabeen Tues 22 Mar 2011
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 in Don's surfin' pics, North Narrabeen, Top stories.Solid east swell lit up North Narrabeen and I was there to catch some of it with the camera in the morning and again in the afternoon. I’ve put all the pics into a gallery for anyone who may have been in the water! Enjoy, and remember, it’s easy to buy a high res version of any image in the gallery. Just click on the pic you want and look for the link top left…
Here’s a sample of some of the 200+ pics in the gallery.

Pics at Longy 23 March, 9 – 10.15am, 4.30 – 5.20pm.
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 in Top stories.Surf Photos of You. I managed to get down to Longy and grabbed some great pics of the locals getting some great waves from around 9 to 10.15am. Longy was a good peaky 4 – 5 foot with some great wall and fast sections. Check out my Surf Gallery
Manly this morning
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 in Manly.Went for a look at Manly to see how the swell was behaving itself this morning. Average period was close to 10 seconds and that meant the two metres of E to ESE swell was lighting up the entire stretch from Queensy to south steyne. Throw in sunny skies and light offshores and it was all coming together in most photogenic fashion. So, showing spectacular discipline, I hauled out the Nikon D7000 and the 300mm f4 with the 1.7x tele-extender and shot for an hour or so. By that stage I couldn’t stand it any longer, so grabbed the fishy and paddled out to see if I could score something too. Turned out that the tide was just a bit too high by then and the sets were really pouring through so you had to be in exactly the right spot… not complaining though. I got wet along with lots of other folks.
Wind is light and variable as of 1400, and the swell is working more to the SE but not losing any power that I can see. I’d say there’ll be surf aplenty right up to close of play. And, while tomorrow is forecast to be smaller, I think it’s pretty likely we’ll still have something to play with.

Here’s just one from my shooting session this morning immediately south of Queenscliff. Full gallery will be posted later…
Great waves!!!
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 in Long Reef.Sorry for the late post but I managed to be at Longy this morning which was going off. 4 – 6 foot with some nice walls and quick sections. I took quite a few pics so check out my Surf Gallery later this afternoon. But I will post a couple now. Surf Photos of You

Wow! Big! Bigger than yesterday. And clean, and glassy, and if your favourite spot likes it from the east, then today is probably as good as it gets
Wahines, In Byron Bay Today
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 in Byron.
Huey turned up the heat, turned down the wind just a little and the girls turned up in force, in Byron Bay today. I got to say I was pretty impressed. Some of the travelling surfers cruising through the bay would do well to take some lessons on etiquette from the wahine crew that showed up today. They all could surf, and yet they all behaved, no hassling no hustling and no egos, just a whole lot of fun went down in the bay. Unfortunately though it all came to an abrupt halt as Huey turned the wind due north and a really dense wave of blue bottles came floating past Julian Rocks. Before we knew it, there were so many blueys and the stings so relentless that the little nasties had managed to clear the lineup in a matter of minutes. But I suppose that’s the luck of the draw, we play the cards we’re dealt, or we don’t get to play at all, In Byron Bay Today.
Another grey day with a grey sea – but waves
Posted on March 22nd, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Two metre east swell with a 9-10s period was combining this morning with light W to NW breezes to produce clean surface conditions and wave faces into the overhead range. The water looks revolting at Dee Why though. Torrents of stormwater have washed all the crap off the streets and into the wave zone. Plus a big rain event such as we’ve just had will be taxing the sewerage treatment plants to the max. Going for a wave today could definitely land you with something unpleasant.
There’s a 30% chance of more rain today, but the next three days are set to be – gasp – sunny! The UV will start working on all the nasties in the surface water, which is a good thing.
The swell is forecast to peak today, but the models show reasonable energy levels through tomorrow and maybe into Friday morning. After that it looks as though things will head toward marginal as we wait for Huey to spin up something new. The long range models are showing some pretty intense systems coming through the southern ocean, but the latest run shows the juicy stuff being shunted too far out into the Tasman to do us any good.
Go well with your day!
