A Question Of Balance, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on April 20th, 2011 in Byron.
It was always on the cards, after such an extraordinary week of weather, that Huey would balance the books with a whole lot of rain, in Byron Bay today. Yes folks it’s still pissing down raining in the bay, tis a good us salty people don’t mind a bit of water with our wet bits every now and again. It’s all a question of balance, there’s no light without the dark, no sun without the rain and when it comes to life in general no growth without the pain. Those who wanted to score some waves today had to deal with some weird crowd moments, and plenty of weather with very little sun. But when all settled at the end of the day, it was still a whole lot of fun, In Byron Bay Today.
Waves around this morning and that’s a good thing
Posted on April 19th, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
High tide at about 0900 and swell is out of the east at about a metre. Period’s close to 9 seconds, so there are chest high sets showing in the beachbreak of Dee Why. There should be a fair number of places lighting up with this particular combo. Wind is light for the early, but is set to swing from the NE to SE. Water temp offshore is about 23 degrees too. Felt nice when I went for a dip at the point yesterday, so it should be good again today.
Fair number of bods in the water at Dee Why, but it’s not looking crazy or anything. From looking around yesterday, that seemed to be the pattern, ie, fair numbers in the water, but not exceptionally busy.
You’ll want to make an effort today though, because the models are all showing the waves disappearing pretty much over the next few days.
I’ll be sending postcards from across the pond over the next two weeks as I’m off to celebrate my dear old Dad’s 90th.
Have yourself a good one!

Posted on April 19th, 2011 in Long Reef.It was another beautiful morning down the beach. Don’t you just love Autumn. Warm, still and crystal clear. There were a few fun little waves around. 2 – 3 foot and glassy conditions. All the way into lunch time. Swell predicted to drop even further. Enjoy. Surf Photos of You.

2 foot, full moons and dolphins
Posted on April 19th, 2011 in Manly.MORNING POST SURF UPDATE: Was actually a bit bigger than first light showed Had the odd shoulder high set if you waited with good shape on the right bank. Could have been the incoming tide push but will be nice now after pre-work crowd. Go find one if you can before a wind change
ESE swell has dropped to 1-2 foot at Manly. If you wait there are some 2 foot sets, just, but they are not doing a lot. High tide is approaching but maybe it’s not big enough to have good form through the high tide like yesterday. Might be better to check out a south swell magnet to squeeze the last juice out of this swell. It’s perfect and clean and there’s some dolphins out the back and a big full moon to keep things pretty this morning
Steel Grey, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on April 19th, 2011 in Byron, Surf Reports.
It’s still got that steel grey tinge to it, as the rain continues to fall and the weather keeps driving its way up the coastline, in Byron Bay today. There were some cute little wave for the groms and the logs in today, and even though it’s still wet and grey there’s a very real feeling of peace in this weather as washes away all before it in the bay. Just a quick note to from Jamie Bennett, Jamie informed us that he had an excellent response from our readers for his surf injury survey, and he would like to sincerely thank the many IBBT readers who took the time to participate. Good stuff guys your feedback is very valuable in this research. Also the Andrew Wells Grown Surfboards ‘Flow Fish’, is coming, it will be sent to North Coast Surfboards soon. Once there, Tony, Evan and the boys will put the finishing touches on all that beautiful woodwork. Once finished, then and only then will we announce the date of the draw. All subscribers have a chance, but only those subscribers who are present at the draw, can claim this particular board, In Byron Bay Today.
Fadng but clean and fun looking for the early
Posted on April 18th, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Light westerly winds and a weakening SE swell combined with a high tide at 0800 to deliver somewhat slow but nicely shaped waves at Dee Why. Seemed to be quite a wait between sets. But I did see fun looking ones at both the point and along the beach right on the high tide. The good news is that the Bureau now says we’re likely to have pretty favourable winds right through the day. So although it’s likely to be smaller later, with any luck, we’ll have surfable options at some point along most of Sydney’s beaches.
That’s the good news.
While we may still have a little something tomorrow morning at the spots with good south exposure, the models say we should dial the expectations down to minimal. And after that things start to look bleak for surfing in Sydney. Utter flatness is on the cards for the rest of the week sadly. Meanwhile, down in Vicco it looks like itll be pumping all week and next weekend is looking very impressive. Could be a classic this year.
Enjoy your day and go well with all those plans!

Will be better mid tide and hopefull the wind will stay a light W – SW. There are a few waves around and will get better with the lower tide. Enjoy Surf Photos of You.
Wet and Wild, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on April 18th, 2011 in Byron.
Well that amazing weather we had last week had to come to end sometime and that time is now, in Byron Bay today. We saw strong winds, plenty of rain and grey skies, but hey, we still had waves. Those that timed it well even managed to score a few quiet ones today. Yet the holiday crew soon woke up to what was going on, and where. Then it was on for young and old, many amongst us just decided to sit this one out for a while, as there are times when it’s simply not worth adding more weight to an already frustrated crowd. The rain persisted, the people kept coming and Huey just kept on pouring clean little lines past the cape. But sometimes a hot coffee and just sitting, watching and waiting for a quiet window is the better option, In Byron Bay Today.
Late mail: junky but fun size
Posted on April 17th, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Sorry about that. The server decided to stop serving at early this morning and it took me some time to figure out what needed doing. There are waves to be had, but they’ve been very junky thus far today. After peaking late last night, the SE swell is pushing in at around 2 metres with an average period of 9 seconds (and the odd 11 second bomb). Wind is SE at around 10-15kts which is in line with the forecast for decreasing strength. As the wind backs off, the swell is set to do the same. Given how it looks and the forecast, I’d say it’ll continue very messy and junky, but be surfable for the rest of today and that there might still be a little something left for the early risers tomorrow.
Low tide’s at around 1320 today, so this afternoon could get some benefit from the incoming tide.
Outlook for the rest of the week is not too flash it has to be said. The models are pretty bleak for the east coast. Looks as though there’ll be some energy down at Bells as the week goes along and next weekend could be pretty punchy…
Have yourself a great Sunday!
Weather Situation

Winds: East to southeasterly 5 to 10 knots tending north to northeasterly during the morning then increasing to 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Southeasterly about 1.5 metres.Forecast for Tuesday
Winds: North to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to 10 knots during the morning then tending northeasterly during the afternoon. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Southeasterly about 1 metre.
