Let’s Do That Again, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on April 15th, 2011 in Byron.
Just when you think it can’t get any better, Huey ups the ante and churns out a devastatingly beautiful autumn’s day, in Byron Bay today. There’s a very simple reason why we all love this time of year around here so much. It’s the weather, cooler night’s warm days, and as the sun makes its trip north to its winter meridian the sunsets get better and better each day, and then there’s the waves. If we get lucky, and so far this year lucky is how we’re looking, we get waves. When we add it all up it’s a recipe for something most of us could get into again and again, In Byron Bay Today.
Aw Huey, c’mon matey
Posted on April 14th, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
After a brief and hopeful bump around midday yesterday, Huey seems to have lost interest in Sydneysiders. The primary swell direction is now easterly and the average height of the swell at sea is just under a metre at about 8 seconds. There’s some 12-13 second component in amongst it, which is probably what I got a picture of at 0730. I’d expect the pattern to be long waits for the odd waist high thing at exposed stretches.
Wind’ll be out of the SW to W at around 10-15 kts. The Bureau’s swell model for the Wollongong to Newcastle region shows the swell height pushing up a bit as the day goes along. I’m not seeing any real sign of it on the latest buoy data for the NSW coast, although the average period being observed at Batemans Bay is hanging in there at around 11 seconds. Mind you, it’s been that way since Tuesday lunchtime, so I’m not getting too hopeful.
The WAM data this morning is still showing a pulse developing sometime late Friday and overnight into Saturday as the wind goes to the SE. With luck the swell will get into the 2-3 metre range so that we can get a little something in the south corners. The weather’ll be pretty ordinary though. The Bureau says it’ll be cloudy with scattered showers from Friday through to Monday.
Enjoy the sunny weather while we have it and keep on smilin!

Pretty much identical to yesterday, from my observation. Maybe a bit smaller, but places that like it really south could be worth favouring. Looked like a bit of white water up around Boat Harbour
Tasty, In Byron Bay Today.

When you come to think of it, one really couldn’t ask for more than that, in Byron Bay today. Well that is speaking from the point of view of the parents and kids on holidays at the moment. It was simply a strikingly beautiful day in the bay. I lost count of how many times folks kept strolling up to me and saying ‘How Good is this?’ One only had to wonder around outside for a few minutes to get where they were coming from. We had nice clean swell, light offshore winds all day. Good sand producing some long lines, plenty of sunshine, the temperature was so pleasant it’s probably illegal and it was all topped off with a stunner of an evening lightshow. Yes ok I’ll admit it, it was somewhat crowded, but hey it is school holidays and that is to be expected. Bottom line, when the figures are all in, it was most definitely tasty, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on April 13th, 2011 in Dee Why.Hello Friends,
Hmmm. That’s annoying. Yesterday the average period down at Batemans Bay kicked up to nearly 12 seconds, so I was modestly hopeful about this morning. There are plenty of lines in the sea, but the numbers coming from the MHL buoy explain why there were only a few people in the water at Dee Why this morning. We’ve got about a metre of SE swell at 9 seconds – and there is some 14 sec stuff in the mix – but the only wave I saw caught was waist high one by a bloke at the point with a mal. Low tide’s at a little after 1000, so it’s not a question of being too full either.
It looks as though the wind will stay out of the westerly quarters through the day, but sadly it doesn’t look as though the energy levels will improve much, if at all until (maybe) toward dusk. That wind seems to be hold the swell offshore for now.
Again the interpretations of the WAM data are a bit all over the shop. Some are saying to forget it until late Friday, others reckon there might be a little south pulse in the middle of the day on Thursday. But there does seem to be some commonality on the question of Saturday when it looks as though we could have a showery cool day with 15-20 kts of s to sw wind and 2-3+ metres of south swell. With luck it’ll be clean enough to surf somewhere on Saturday and Sunday.
Go well with your day!
