This morning’s 10 degree air temps felt much colder than that in the 10-15kts of westerly. A beautiful blue sky greeted early risers but while the MHL buoy off Sydney is showing a couple metres of south swell, the wind and shortish average period of about 8 seconds aren’t delivering much of anything into the corner at Dee Why. Places with direct south exposure could be picking up something and, since the water’s still around the 20 degree mark, all you need to do is pull on the wetty in the car, sprint across the beach and you’re good.
The Bureau says the wind will be anywhere from 15-25 kts and coming out of the SW to W all day. By their reckoning, that will result in the swell continuing to be held offshore all day. Tide’s low at 0930 and the high will be along at 1545.
Tomorrow looks like being sunny and a bit warmer than today, but the wind forecast looks pretty similar today. According to the Bureau’s modelling, the swell should be a bit bigger, so perhaps there’ll be a few more options around the joint. Beyond that I’ll stand pat in anticipation of the Goat rolling out his usual look at the prospects for the week ahead. Suffice to say I’ll be most interested in the front end of his forecast…
Weather Situation
A cold front and associated low is moving across the southwestern Tasman Sea bringing a vigorous west to southwest airstream along New South Wales coast. During Thursday and Friday a strong high pressure system will move towards the Bight extending a ridge to the Coral Sea. Southwest winds are expected to increase again along the coast on Saturday as another cold front moves to the Tasman Sea.Forecast for Thursday until midnight
Winds: West to southwesterly 20 to 25 knots becoming westerly 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon then increasing to 20 to 25 knots by early evening. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres. Swell: Southeasterly about 1.5 metres.Forecast for Friday
