"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Small but surfable this morning, bigger later?

Hello Friends,

“Large swells breaking dangerously close inshore” always catches a surfer’s eye and that’s what the Bureau was saying last night and again this morning in its marine forecast for the Sydney region. But look at the fine print and you can understand why it was only about waist to chest high along the Dee Why to Longy stretch as the sun peeped over a cloud populated horizon this morning. The big stuff is due to fill in this afternoon.

The swell’s currently out of the SSE and the wind’s offshore at 10-15 kts. However, from midday when the pulse could begin to make itself felt, Huey’s going to swing the breeze around to the east to SE, so surface conditions are likely to be pretty ordinary. Oh, and the cloud’s set to thicken up and there could be a few showers around the place.

So go early!

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the Bureau is again warning of dangerous surf, but the wind should be light SW under cloudy skies. The swell forecast models are calling for a couple metres of straight south swell Sunday morning. They reckon the period will have bumped up with the arrival of the pulse and be in the juicy 12-14 second range. According to the supercomputers, the swell will fade through Sunday and be bumping around the small to flat range on Monday morning.

But Huey has plans for later in the week if those computers are to be believed. Come late Wednesday and Thursday we could see a pretty good size east pulse developing. Unfortunately the forecast is for a fair amount of swell destroying easterly early in the event, so Thursday morning as it fades could be more the go… as usual, we shall see what we shall see!

Have yourself a great Saturday!
