Sunday good for everything but surfing in Sydney
Posted on July 31st, 2011 in Dee Why.
Hello Friends,
Grasping at straws here… it looked utterly flat when I checked Dee Why this morning and the MHL buoy is showing 0.5 metres of SE windswell with an average period of 7 seconds, so you’d have to think there was no hope. But there is some peak component at 12 seconds, so just maybe you might find a very occasional little knee high bomb at an exposed spot.
Being realistic though, you’d have to say that for most of us this is a Sunday that will have to pass into the history books unsurfed.
This morning’s run of the models is sticking with the same microscopic outlook as yesterday. The Goat looks to be right on the money with his call last week – sadly.
The very long range projections contain some slight hope of swell showing up from the south toward the middle of week after next. However to say that is speculative is an understatement!
Have yourself a great Sunday.

Sydney: Sad for the next week or so
Posted on July 31st, 2011 in Surf Reports. You can leave the boards in the garage today. It’s just without any element of energy at all. There are couple of sad, desperate souls paddling around at Dee Why this afternoon, but it’s knee high in the best of bomb sets. Had a go at Curly yesterday and even though there were a couple dozen punters out there it was only barely rideable. Even worse, the forecast looks as though it’ll stay like this for a week or so.
Surf situation dire

Hello Friends,
No nice way to put it. There’s nothing much happening at Dee Why. A typical beautiful winter’s Saturday morning like this usually attracts at least one or two punters. But when I grabbed a snap at around 0720, no one was in the water. Not too surprising given that it appears to be knee high at best on the bomb sets. We’re heading into a long lull.
This morning’s run of the swell forecast models contains little of interest to east coast surfers. Apparently, no matter how you slice the data, prospects look bleak for the next week – at least. The seasons are shifting and that means more slow moving highs across the continent along with fewer and less intense swell generating lows in the southern ocean. Ah well, it’s been a great winter swell season, so maybe there are a few more classic sessions to come before the spring doldrums really settle in.
Go well with your Saturday!

Posted on July 30th, 2011 in Surf Reports.Clean little 1 metre swell kicking along down here. Better for big boards though, methinks
1 foot of nothing.
Posted on July 30th, 2011 in Curl Curl. What can I say… another beautiful day on the Northern Beaches. July has been great for waves but it is going to finish with a whimper. Not even that. There are no waves this morning and if you do find one it will be small. I ventured from South Curl Curl to Narrabeen and it is knee to waist high in some places and smaller at others. Certainly nothing bigger. Its longboard territory and you will struggle with anything under 9 foot. Good luck in your travels. Enjoy. Surf Photos of You
On the downward slop.
Posted on July 29th, 2011 in Long Reef. The swell is on a downward cycle and by Tuesday will see it fairly flat. Long Reef and Dee Why this morning were about 2 – 4 foot but a bit full. With the lowering of the tide the swell has also gone downwards to about 2 – 3 foot. Beautiful day though. Enjoy Surf Photos of You.

Hello Friends,
Whoops, that server of ours had another hiccup. Guess that’s what happens sometimes when you run on the smell of the smell of an oily rag.
Anywho, here’s the skinny.
On Friday morning the MHL buoy was showing a 1.5 metre south swell chugging along at a respectable 12 to 14 seconds. Where Dee Why was concerned that meant very occasional sets into the chest high range along the beach, and even less frequent bumps lighting up the point.
Wind was light and out of the west to north west early. It’s supposed to be in the 10-15kt range today.
Outlook is for the swell to fade out today, so the plan is get in asap if you can…
Have yourself a top old Friday!

Sorry I’m late!
Posted on July 28th, 2011 in Dee Why.
Hello Friends,
Sorry about the site being down to begin the day. Seems to happen when I go away for a few days…
Anyway…
How’s your Thursday looking?
Sunny in Sydney but despite the models calling for a little swell today, nothing much was showing at Dee Why this morning. That said, the average period has bumped up pretty smartly down at Eden and Batemans Bay. So, this afternoon could see a little something at south facing spots. I’m certainly hoping so, having been away for the excitement of the last 5 days.
Wind should be light and out of the NW to N today. With luck the swell will start to fill in coincident with an incoming tide from about midday.
Going back to the models, it’s a glum looking picture for the next week as far as surf prospects on the east coast go. The seasons are shifting and the flat spells will probably get longer as we march steadily toward the doldrums of spring. This morning’s batch of forecast data interpretations tells us not to expect anything much above the waist high mark from tomorrow through the end of next week.
