Hello Friends,

Offshore conditions this morning, but Huey’s turned off the swell pump for Sydney. From the look of the MHL buoy data, the swell was around the metre mark and coming from the east. Unfortunately the average period was a paltry 5 seconds. About the biggest wave I saw when I checked it out a little before 0800 was something with a face that might have (momentarily) been the better part of a metre. But no one was in the water, so my estimate may be on the high side.

So it’s pretty much a non-event for Monday I’d say. However…

I am liking the look of the long range swell forecast model data this morning. For some days now the predictions have been pointing at a significant swell event for late in the week. A few days ago it seemed that we might see something as early as Wednesday, but the start point has now moved to Thursday. The models show the swell direction having a touch of SW to it then, so although the swell at sea could be solid (@ 4m), the brunt of the energy won’t be coming on to our stretch of coast. As well, the winds are set to be pretty strong from the SW. Right now Friday is looking like the day as the swell gets more south, the period goes over the 10 second mark and the winds stay offshore but weaken a bit. Beyond that it looks as though Saturday will fade back and then a new pulse will ramp up for Sunday.

Keep on smilin’ and have yourself a top old Monday.
