Is That It, In Byron Bay Today?
Posted on July 22nd, 2011 in Byron.
Well yes it is, but some swell is better than no swell, and there certainly were some nice clean swell lines sweeping past the cape, in Byron Bay today. Now if you’d paid attention to all the forecasters out there in cyber space prattling on about the latest east coast low, you’d have expected it to be massive at most spots in the bay today. Massive it was not. Fun, on the other hand, is a word that readily springs to mind. So if you found yourself thinking, geez is that it. Try remembering this, some swell is a whole lot more fun than no swell, In Byron Bay Today.
The Goat’s Surf Forecast
Posted on July 21st, 2011 in Goat's Forecast.Surf forecast issued Thursday 21 July 2011: seven day outlook for Sydney:
Black as the Acer outside at the moment, plenty of rain, foul winds, the buoys are showing large swell the models are saying it’s big at sea, but… you know what? as that Kev bloke would say… what I’ve seen doesn’t seem to be matching up with that on the ground, on the coast ( to pay homage to Rex). Why is it so ?? Well there is a lot of wind messing up the “large long period swell”, but I’ve had a theory for a long time about swell which has a lot of East in it – the surf size never matches up with what the models suggest the size should be – and I suspect it may be because there is a lot of bounceback off the land when the oceanswell hits a coast straight on - much more so than when it arrives at an angle. Having said that – while it should be “big” tomorrow, it’ll probably be “huge” instead, just to prove me wrong!
So my best guess at the moment:
Friday: maybe 3-4 metres East South East
Saturday: similar
Sunday: similar, again
Monday: 2-3 metres East South East
Tuesday: 2-3 metres South East
Wednesday: 1-2 metres South East
Thursday: 1 metre or less South East
Water temp is around 19.
Looks like the Bureau expects the double Lows to move away a bit more quickly than previuosly..

Offshore
Posted on July 21st, 2011 in Surf Reports. There were plenty of rideable wind protected waves in between Queenscliff and Manly around midday. Its a good 4 – 5 foot up the northern end and smaller towards Manly. The southerly is semi offshore along the strip and the usual crowd are out there getting some fun stuff. Surf is building so more towards Manly may be the go this afternoon and tomorrow. Enjoy. Surf Photos of You.
Central Coast
Posted on July 21st, 2011 in Surf Reports.6 foot and messed out today. Torrential rain for the past 48 hours and bad weather for the next 36 hours…hang in there!
Dee Why: Some size, a little bit of quality.

Posted on July 21st, 2011 in Big Picture.Hello Friends,
Away from the coast atm, but thought I’d wave hello anyway. Looks pretty miserable along the coast of Sydney this morning. Swell is out of the SSE at about 3 metres with an average period of 9seconds.
The forecast models are still calling for another kick in size across the coming 24 hours. Unfortunately the weather looks as though it’ll be pretty vile. 20-30 kts of southerly and rain don’t make a great combo.
Have a great day and stay dry!
Calm before the ?
Posted on July 21st, 2011 in Manly.Smaller than expected this morning but all signs point to a big ramp up again by tomorrow. About 4-5ft and smaller at south Manly. Looks like a few at the Bower as well. With a SW wind it’s clean enough to surf now but the water itself certainly isn’t with all this rain.
Would love to see what’s gonna happen at the beach tomorrow and for the weekend but heading off snowboarding early. I’m sure there will be enough pics floating around. Good luck and be careful I guess.
The Waiting Game, In Byron Bay Today.
Posted on July 21st, 2011 in Byron.
Huey is stirring things up down the coast, but in the mean time it’s a waiting game here, in Byron Bay today. And wait we must because it doesn’t get much smaller than it was today. Small though it was, there are always a few hardy souls willing to go out and play. Now if they can be bothered to surf it, then we can be bothered to shoot it. After all we’re happy to make the most of what’s on offer while waiting for the swell to arrive, In Byron Bay Today.
