Foggy Start

Posted on August 27th, 2011 in Manly.

Fogs just cleared to reveal clean 1-2 foot of East swell  Big crew down at North Steyne where it’s working better on the high tide.  As it runs out there might be more options.  I’m gonna watch the Billabong Pro for a while instead as its on and solid Check it here http://bit.ly/oQIrG5

A touch smaller again, but still little waves to be found

Posted on August 26th, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Swell is gradually fading away, but for the early risers, there were a few small waves to be had at spots with a liking for east swell. The Bureau says the morning offshore will be pushed away by a south change of 10-20 kts. As you can see from the picture above, set wave faces at Dee Why were around the waist to chest high mark. I’d expect there to be a slightly bigger sets at better exposed spots. Mind you, I’ll probably pass on Manly… :-)

The swell forecast models are predicting that the wave energy will weaken gradually over the next couple days and by next week it looks as though we’ll be facing a 3-4 day lull in proceedings. The swell models are showing plenty of activity coming out of the southern ocean and running up the western side of the Tasman. Unfortunately the models aren’t showing much of the energy coming our way. One very long range prediction shows something happening toward the end of next week, but that’s pretty speculative stuff, so I’m not making any plans myself.

If I may beg your indulgence… you’ve probably noticed that we’re running a promo ad to see if we can sell some ad space via an auction. It closes in 3 days, so please check it out. Even if you’re pretty sure it’s not relevant to you, maybe you know someone who’d be might be interested…

To bid, you register here and the system will send you an activation email. Then you’re good to go. BTW, once you’re registered, you can also auction stuff yourself (there’s no charge to put something up).

Have yourself a great Friday!

Peaky Crowds

Posted on August 26th, 2011 in Manly.

Lots of 2-3 foot clean peaks this morning with a consistent number of waves being caught albeit a bit short with not much wall.  Crazy number of people out for the morning session.  One of those mornings you wonder what they all do for work or if a lot of people will just be late this morning.

Tide dropping, nice morning to have a surf. Enjoy

The Payoff, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 26th, 2011 in Byron, Surf Reports.

Yes folks every cloud has a silver lining, or so they say anyway. Today was the payoff for all the rain wind and altogether cruddy weather, in Byron Bay today. The wind backed off, just a little. The swell straightened out, just a tad. The rain eased just a smidgeon and suddenly there were good waves to be had. Several spots were firing, there were appropriate choices for the log crew and the little white board set too. So for all those that waited out the weather, we hope you enjoyed the payoff, In Byron Bay Today.

Did you like yesterday?

Posted on August 25th, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

As far as the MHL buoy off Sydney’s concerned, this morning is pretty much exactly the same as yesterday, ie swell is out of the east at a touch under 2 metres and the average period is about 10 seconds. The breeze was light and from the NW to begin with. The Bureau says it’ll swing north east this afternoon and get up to 15-20 kts. Postively summery. Speaking of summery, yesterday I managed to get in the water for an hour or so at Manly. As I crossed the beach I noticed there were a few blueys along the high tide line…

The outlook is for the swell to continue at more or less the current level through tomorrow, so it could well be worth a look at the east spots. Dee Why was showing a little something, but it was struggling to get to chest high. I reckon the more exposed spots should be producing the odd bigger one than that.

Outlook for the coming week is for a spring-like stretch of tiny to flat conditions. There are still some juicy looking lows coming through the southern ocean in the long range forecasts. However it looks like the energy will be deflected away from our swell window by continental high pressure systems. Fiji or NZ might be a better bet, or Vicco possibly.

Have yourself a top old Thursday and keep on smilin’!

Puffed Out, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 25th, 2011 in Byron, Surf Reports.

Plenty of swell was on offer as it swung to east overnight, yet from the wind there was little respite, in Byron Bay today. It’s just the way it is, Huey is going to keep this low pressure system a huffing and a puffing until it’s all puffed out. Windy though it was there were plenty waves about. The sand is still on the move, and a few new banks have come good, although we won’t be saying where. But we will say this; they’re not that hard to find if you just make an effort to look beyond the front of your hood, In Byron Bay Today.

Dropping…

Posted on August 25th, 2011 in South Narrabeen.

There were still some size early but its disappearing with the tide.  South Narrabeen had waves early but with the onset of the onshore breeze it became less enjoyable.  Long Reef is considerably smaller at around 2 – 3 foot.  Its going to another beautiful day on the beach so if you can get out there enjoy it before it disappears over the weekend.  Enjoy.  Surf Photos of You.

on wednesday afternoon, looks like only light, 1 – 2 footers at cox bay tofino, with some limited surfing action – the faintest swell at our west-facing beach outside town, some 175 km to the south east and 90 km up the straits – on monday evening, after our first rain in weeks, cox bay was looking stronger, bigger and blustery, with enough swell reaching our west-facing beach to reassure us about surfing at our rivermouth point, just 30 km hence – last thursday evening at our rivermouth point was just puny – please stay tuned ….. !! twitter mercuryloge \,,/

Curly/Freshy Rpt

Posted on August 25th, 2011 in Surf Reports.

Lumpy at Curly and a fair crowd on the left at Freshy. Straight east swell means it isnt lighting up like it would with a bit more south, but there are still clean headhigh waves to be had, if you’re patient
