A bit day afterish

Posted on August 25th, 2011 in Manly.

There was a bit of a day-after-it-was-good crowd out this morning.  Still the rare 4ft bomb set but a little smaller than yesterday and not as pristine.  Great waves on the right bank though and best to hit it for the morning session as the tide runs out.

Have fun.

Barrels……

Posted on August 24th, 2011 in South Narrabeen.

South Narrabeen had some great waves this morning.  3 – 4 foot E swell with a light offshore making conditions sensational. I grabbed a lot of pics for you to check.  Enjoy today as the swell is on the downwards trend for the weekend.  Surf Photos of You.

Pumpin

Posted on August 24th, 2011 in Manly.

So its pumping conditions today Clean Offshore and nice 4 foot of swell.  Not to put a damper on it but it was hard to snag a good one this morning.  Maybe just me or the tide. The south half of the beach was better.  Get out there anyway as it’s good stuff and the tides perfect for the morning unemployed.

Tidier and some chest high sets too

Posted on August 24th, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Ocean looks much better this morning. Swell is around to the east now. It was close to two metres out at the MHL buoy and the average period is about 9 seconds. We’re heading into a sunny Wednesday with light offshores for the early which are expected to wander around to SE later, but not get up to much above the 10 kt mark.

Outlook is for the swell energy to gradually decrease over the rest of the week, but as of this morning the wave forecast models are calling for it to hold around the waist to chest high range through to Saturday.

Get out there and enjoy!

Weather Situation
A strong, slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the NSW south coast. A low pressure trough lies over the Coral Sea and a vigorous east to southeast airstream, between these systems, lies over the northern Tasman Sea and northern NSW coast. The trough is likely to gradually contract east across the Tasman Sea on Thursday and Friday with winds easing in the north. A weakening southwest to southerly change is expected to affect NSW coastal waters late Thursday through Friday as a cold front enters the southern Tasman Sea. Same As It Ever Was, In Byron Bay Today

Posted on August 24th, 2011 in Byron, Surf Reports.

Ok maybe that was just a bit of an overstatement, but suffice to say the east coast low still holds sway, in Byron Bay today. The weather has been the same for a few days now. Which is really not that long, yet when it’s wet windy and cold, it can get folks feeling a little down. There is a bright side to it though, there have been waves. Granted, not the huge swell that people were predicting, but some reasonably nice long period slides. Producing enough power and endorphin induced smiles to keep one’s mind off the rain and wind for while. So as long as Huey keeps wrapping those sweet little lines around the cape, we’re ok if it’s the same again, In Byron Bay Today.

Dee Why: Slip, Slap, Sloppy

Might want to give Palm Beach a miss for a while:

At Dee Why, a few now and again waist-high mushballs but generally it looks like this:

A few had a go

Posted on August 23rd, 2011 in Manly.

Looks the same as yesterday but there are a few guys having a crack today  The onshore wind is probably a touch weaker but it’s still crappy conditions.  3-4ft of swell.  I guess if you are keen, patient and lucky you might find a section out there….somewhere.

Sailing Away, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 23rd, 2011 in Byron.

Windy enough for you, geez talk about blowing a gale, had to keep an eye on Yoko to make sure she wasn’t sailing away on a gust of wind, in Byron Bay today. Earlier I witnessed several crew not really commit to the take off. The end result, Huey held them up in the lip only just long enough to erase any hope of ever making the drop. It was just one of those days in the bay, if you surfed it, you committed to it. If not there was a risk of going down the shaft or simply sailing away with the blow, In Byron Bay Today.

Windy and messy again

Posted on August 22nd, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

15-20 kts of SE wind and it looks as though we have another 24 hours of it to go. As with the last few mornings, Dee Why is extremely messy but also reasonably big. If it was clean, there’d be head high to 1.5x head high waves on a regular basis. As it is, we have lumps of chop around that size instead.

The onshores are expected to weaken by tomorrow afternoon, so who knows, maybe we’ll get something interesting to play on then. Wednesday-Friday mornings currently look promising…according to the models. If they turn out to be right, we should have light winds and chest to head high for the early risers at spots that like swell from the SE.

So hang in there for another day or so…

Have a good one!
