Not much on this morning.  3 foot at Long Reef with an E swell and ESE wind.  Patience may be whats need.  Surf Photos of You

Ugly SE onshore conditions this morning  4-5ft of East swell  Think I saw one keen person out at South Steyne.  The most south corners will have the only chance of some protection.

Wet And Wild, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on August 22nd, 2011 in Byron, Surf Reports.

Yes folks yet another east coast low is upon us, and it’s brought wind, rain and a bit of swell as well, in Byron Bay today. As anyone in town would know, we’ve had a bucketing over the last twenty four hours. There’s no sign of that rain backing off anytime soon either. The wind is up and pushing thirty plus knots at times, and the swell has come to town, well a bit at least. Of course everyone knew this one was coming, and the east in the wind didn’t leave many options open elsewhere. So as to be expected there was a fair bit of traffic to negotiate in the bay today. Yet traffic or not, there were moments, good moments, and the patient amongst the crew were well rewarded for waiting out the wet and wild times, In Byron Bay Today.

You can cross Dee Why off the list

Posted on August 21st, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Keeping it brief due to busy schedule. Dee Why definitely not happening this morning. SE wind is pushing along at 15-20 kts or so and really tearing up exposed stretches like Dee Why to Longy. Swell is ESE at a touch over two metres with an okay 9-10 second period. If it was offshore, it’d be smokin’. Unfortunately, it’s going to be SE to E wind for another couple days at least.

I’m hoping to get out and about for a look at some of the more protected zones to see if there are any waves to be had elsewhere…

Have yourself a top old Sunday!

A selection of shots from Sunday messiness

Hello Friends,

Had a look at the south end of Manly and the Bower and then stopped by Whiterock and Collaroy to see if anything was surfable. I guess if you’re super keen there are junk burgers to be had, but for the less motivated it looks like a great day to catch up with friends.

Spinner, In Byron Bay Today’s Weekend Review.

Posted on August 21st, 2011 in Byron.

Yes folks, Huey is up to the old tricks yet again, in Byron Bay today. Even as I type this out we are experiencing an increase in wind, swell and rain as well. As yet another east coast low begins to develop off central to mid coast. Will it be a spinner, and how big will it get? Questions nobody can answer accurately, Huey does what Huey does. If it stays put we’ll see large south swells that will probably only be small in the bay but with heavy currents. If it heads north east we’ll easterly swells and a little more action with even heavier currents. Either way it’ll be a week for the inexperienced to tread a little more carefully as the weather ups the ante, In Byron Bay Today.

Rough as guts

Hello Friends,

The short version: it’s messy and blown out pretty much everywhere on Saturday morning.

Wind was pushing along at around 20-30 knots as the things got started. The swell was out of the SSE and 2.5 metre on average at sea, but the 8 to 9 second period means we’re dealing with windswell and not much more. The Collaroy to Narrabeen stretch was pretty much ripped to bits and the Longy to Dee Why sweep was, if anything, even more torn up. I suppose if you were super-duper keen you might be able to talk yourself into messing around at Collaroy or making the long reef walk to Whiterock. And, if you were really in a questionable state, Dee Why point could, at certain times, sort of look worth the effort.

The scattered showers should become less frequent as the day goes along and the Bureau reckons the wind will be fading back – a bit – by dark.

Sadly, the SE’ly regime looks set to continue into Monday and beyond. At the same time the swell will bump along in the 2-3 metre range, but because of the baleful wind direction, I don’t think you’ll be finding much of interest until Tuesday or so. This morning’s run of the swell models points to Wed-Thr being about the best shot at a reasonable set of circumstances for surfing in Sydney.  We shall see…

Have yourself a top old Saturday!

Weather Situation

A complex low extends from the Central Coast to north of Lord Howe Island. A centre off the central coast is forecast to move gradually north to northeast during the weekend. In combination with a high strengthening to the south, this system is directing a vigorous south to southeasterly airstream onto the New South Wales coast resulting in strong winds over the northern half of the coastal waters. The exact location and timing of the strong winds is dependent on the precise location of the low.

Forecast for Saturday until midnight

Winds
Southeasterly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots around midday.
Seas
2 to 3 metres.
Swell
Southeasterly 2 metres tending easterly 3 metres during the evening.

The chance of thunderstorms this morning and afternoon. Large swells breaking dangerously close inshore.

Sunday 21 August

Manly 20/8/11 (9-10am) by wozthatyou.com

Posted on August 20th, 2011 in Top stories.

On a day where everything was blown to bits by the wind, Manly was the rare exception. Protected nicely from the southerly, the stretch from Manly up to almost North Steyne was smooth as silk compared to everywhere else. And there was a small but enthusiastic crew spread revelling in the conditions none more so than the pack of groms who were having a blast catching the shories in the corner. And their wave rate was at least 2-3 greater than the adults alongside them! Really fun to watch.

Central Coast is rough and ready too!

Ordinary conditions due to Tasman low.  4 – 5 feet of East Southeast swell messy due to strong southerly winds…..Have a good weekend anyway!

Small, but clean this morning

Posted on August 19th, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,
We have SW wind this morning under grey and cold skies. It was grooming the surface nicely at Dee Why and when, after a long lull, a set turned up, the waves looked pretty if a little full. Between sets it was pretty much flat and the biggest wave face I saw was around the chest high mark. Definitely smaller than yesterday morning too.

This morning’s surfable conditions are set to be swept away by around lunchtime when the wind turns onshore from the SE and ramps up into the 20 knot plus range. At the same time the BoM is telling us that there will be heavy showers to go with the dreckful conditions. Sounds an afternoon to find a cosy retreat. And you might want to stay there through Saturday because it looks as though we’ll have strong SE wind and showers right through the day.

Oh well, it will pass eventually and sunny skies and fun surf will return…

Have yourself a great Friday!
