Jim Beam SurfTag DY Pics 21/10.

Posted on October 21st, 2011 in Top stories.

Surf Photos of You:: The surf was small for the Jim Beam Surf Industries Challenge SurfTag held at Dee Why today 21 Oct.  The swell was only around 1 – 2 foot with the likes of Quiksilver, FCS, Manly Surf School, Volcom and others taking part.  In the end it was O’Neil pipping Manly Surf School by .62 of a point.  Most of the surfers still managed to equip themselves well in the tiny conditions.  I grabbed a few pics at Surf Gallery.  Enjoy.  Surf Photos of You.

2 ft NE bump.

Posted on October 21st, 2011 in Long Reef.

There is a small bump of a wave this morning.  Peaky NE wind swell leftovers from yesterdays wind.  Longy is 1 – 2 foot and smooth.  The Narrabeen stretch is bigger but there is a bump to it.  Enjoy the beautiful day ahead.  Surf Photos of You.

Summer Style

Posted on October 21st, 2011 in Manly.

NE windswell dropped from last nights after-work peak.  Was just like summer. Blue bottles, flags and crowds. Today has 2ft with odd 3ft still.  No wind but NE and flags about to hit again.  Looks fun.

Also on Saturday is the Byron Breast Cancer Day running at Railway Park in town from 10am till 2pm. directly after that The Talofa Soloist aka Shaun (Shauny) Westcott will be doing a set at Railway Park, which would be well worth taking in. Then you’ll just have time to walk across the road and catch Andrew Wells from Grown surfboards. He’ll be teaching his handicraft in a wooden surfboard workshop between 4-5pm you won’t want miss that, In Byron Bay Today.

A bit of swell to play with this morning

Posted on October 20th, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Thanks to some 13 second component in the swell mix, we had some chest to head high bomb sets at Dee Why this morning. The average swell height at sea is only about a metre at 8 seconds, but the longer period stuff and the SE direction were working in early risers’ favour.

It’s looking as though we’ll have a standard issue afternoon NE’ly of 15-20 kts later in the day. If you can’t get out there until later, you’ll be looking at the north corners I’d say.

If this morning’s run of the swell models has anything to do with reality, it might be a plan to get in the water today. Said models are showing wave energy levels fading away to micro across the coming week.

Have yourself a great Thursday one and all!

Wind up early.

Posted on October 20th, 2011 in Long Reef.

The N – NE wind was up early this morning making it northern ends for the most protection.  Longy had a small 1 – 3 foot wave down the beach but the tide was a bit low early.  Enjoy.  Surf Photos of You.

Peaking Up

Posted on October 20th, 2011 in Manly.

Small NE windswell hitting up the SE swell into some fun 2-3ft peaks this morning.  The morning crew slowly woke up to it then attacked.  Plenty of waves though. Low tide 8:30am. Wind wants to go NE so get out there. My first surf for a while and water is finally warming up a touch. Should be good as tide pushes in.

Yoicks A Lordy, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on October 20th, 2011 in Byron.

Well, the truth be known, very few people actually say Yoicks a lordy, in Byron Bay today. But seeing as Groms also view this site, it’s an appropriate substitute to the real words that were being uttered by many about this morning’s crowd in the bay. We didn‘t actually experience it, as we kind of noticed a sudden increase in the morning crew this week, and have been strategically hiding, well sort of a bit. What it’s all about, and why so many are suddenly out in the water, is anyone’s guess. I mean who really knows what drives the crew around this place. Suffice to say whatever it is; it too shall eventually slide away, as like the swell and the seasons the crowds also wax and wane, In Byron Bay Today.

Nice morning with little bumps

Posted on October 19th, 2011 in Dee Why.

Hello Friends,

Interesting little bumps showing at Dee Why on a sunny and cool spring morning. Not much wind about and there was an incoming tide to help push the south swell bump along. The MHL buoy was showing 2 metres from the south at 9-10s. And yet I only spied a single person in the water at the Dee Why end of the beach. He was puttering around at the point and didn’t catch anything while I watched, but it looked like there was the potential for a chest high set.

So, it might be worth a squizz at your fave south swell spot this morning before the NE sea breeze gets going.

Outlook is for the energy levels to gradually sputter out to flatness by the weekend. This morning’s wave prediction models are showing not much of anything in our near future. The southern ocean is still very active, with lots of energetic systems in the roaring 40′s but they’re all avoiding our swell window for now.

Get out there and enjoy!
