I am sick of onshore wind and surf that is too messy to handle – good luck to those who can. again for me todya is one of those days where you aslk yourself is it more frustrating not to have a surf, or to go out and not have a surf!

SE all day every day…

Could the endless SE’r be giving it up soon? According to this morning’s marine forecast for the Sydney region, it should go around to the NE this afternoon. Meanwhile, at 0500 the swell was 2m from the SE with an average period pushing up toward 10 seconds. Not a bad set of numbers that. Those SE spots will be busy again I bet. But maybe this arvo after the 1240 high tide and with the breeze coming around to the NE, there’ll be a few fun options around the place.

Meanwhile in southern California, we’re still waiting for the energy levels to perk up again.

This morning’s postcard is once again from California Street in Ventura (about 50 kms south of where I am in Santa Barbara).

There’s heaps of swell up north for places such as Santa Cruz, but down this way it’s another day of knee to waist high mal waves at places that are picking up the swell. The forecast models show a couple biggish pulses lining up though. With luck we’ll get into the head high plus range mid-next week…

The Goat’s Surf Forecast

People have said for years – he doesn’t know what day it is – and they were right this week – I wasn’t sure if Thursday was Friday… and didn’t care… … now he doesn’t even know what year it is!  Didn’t think it looked quite right… but had an appointment with some Chinese (food)… Anyway…Last for 2011… First for 2012 ….  Ta, B

Surf forecast issued Friday 30 December 2010: Seven day outlook for Sydney:

Last forecast for 2010… First for 2011~~~~~~~~~~~~~ and the waves continue into the New Year, hopefully with an improvement in quality.  It looks like we might get a break from the Soueaster that has continued since the yachts headed off for Hobart, with light winds forecast, then a Noreaster for those favourite Summer locations.  Crowds have been too ridiculous at the few spots sort-of handling SE swell and SE wind!

Here’s a couple of Firsts….

First time in the Sydney Hobart for a yacht called The Goat (no relation) >>> +>>>

First time I’ve ever seen a goat on the beach – today – at my beach!.. very obedient little kid was on a leash, then wandered off to see what some people had to eat, but came when his owner whistled.  I guess the signs do say “No Dogs”… nothin’ about goats there…

Surf:

Saturday: in the 1-2 metre range East South East

Sunday: similar but down a little

Monday: around 1 metre or a bit more East South East

Tuesday: 1-2 metres East South East

Wednesday: 1-2 metres North East

Thursday: 1-2  metres East South East

Friday: 1-2 metres South/South East

Water temp’s around 22-23…quite pleasant

Dee Why: Classic summer day!

Surf has dropped a fair bit from yesterday, but still a bit of energy around. Beautiful summer’s day, sunny skies, light SSE wind.

Southern corners still

Friday brings more 3ft swell from ESE.  Wind swung SW for a while but creeping around back to SE as I type. Southern was way cleaner with a few nice peaks. Northern half was a bit chopped and ripped up and slightly bigger. Low tide right now @ 6:48am

Same Same but ESE

3-4ft of swell moved around to the ESE now.  Southerly wind has picked up just after dawn so more of the same sideshore, cleanish but bumpy conditions. High tide around mid day so more surfing for you today.  And RIP Sean Collins. No surf report would be what we are without him. Legend.

Another southerly day ahead

Hello Friends,

At 0510 wind in Sydney was a steady 15 kts from the south. And it looks set to stay around that level all day. Primary swell is around 2 metres from the ESE with an average period of 8 seconds. Tide’s coming in and will hit high around 1100. And it’s another partly cloudy day coming up with a 30% chance of rain and a high in the mid 20′s.

Not exactly the best recipe for a decent surf, but if you’re extra keen there should be something to flop around in.

According to the models, there should be swell for the next few days in Sydney, but that stupid south to SE wind regime is going to be in force as well.

Have a couple postcards from California for you this morning. The first was taken from a webcam at Ventura’s California St Surfers’ Point. Little WNW lines were giving the crowds something to mess with on their mals and SUPs.

The second pic was taken yesterday arvo as myself and three mates began the half hour walk back to our cars from a spot called Seals just west of Goleta. The tide was super low, and because they’ve yet to have a solid winter swell, the kelp was incredibly thick. Indeed, most rides ended when your board hit a particularly huge lump and you were thrown off. Really annoying because there were some clean and juicy chest to shoulder high sets and it was dead glassy.

Very sad news in the paper this morning that Sean Collins has died of a heart attack. The guy almost single-handedly transformed surf forecasting and with it the way we practice our sport. The obit is worth a read.

Both sides of the pond have waves… but

Dee Why: Hmmmm. Looks like a new south swell…

Still some residual swell from the Cyclone, but looking out at Dee Why beach and Long Reef, it looks like there is a new south swell arriving–or perhaps the low pressure system has just moved south. Can see the bombies trying to break now and again and the direction of the swell on the Point is definitely more southerly. Almost no one surfing at the moment. Coupl of folks on the Point and a handful up the beach. Can’t see Longy very well for the trees at the moment.

Still south corner stuff

Swell dropped slightly and swung more East. Almost with a touch ESE in it now.  Looks like the wait for the bigger 4ft+ sets is longer now and the Southerly wind is hacking into it.  A big crew hiding at the south corner with a second bunch halfway into bumpy stuff. Going to have to hide in the south corners today. High tide 11:37am
