Small, fat and full

Posted on December 24th, 2011 in Longy.

But wait…. there is more….. on the way.  1 – 2 foot at Longy this morning.  Tomorrow arvo and into Tuesday there will be some waves from the NE.  Have a great day and a fab Christmas from Surf Photos of You.

Dee Why: Still flat, but a fabulous day!

Posted on December 24th, 2011 in Surf Reports.

Bucketloads of sunshine,  sea temperature at 21.2C, but the surf is still pretty much flat. Continuing to watch the models and buoys for the expected increase in NE swell sometime tomorrow afternoon.  Byron and Coffs are already showing some building swell and reports are that SE QLD had some significant waves already.  Some solid swell already getting into Noosa with several hundred on the Point at 1130.  The Pass at Byron also getting some pretty punchy waves. That ex-tropical cyclone off the QLD coast seems to be moving somewhat slower than anticipated but will still start pushing some significant swell our way by tomorrow afternoon.

A day for the mall…

Posted on December 24th, 2011 in Manly.

Don’t panic swell ain’t here yet so go to the mall, fight for a park and get all your last minute crappy gift buying done.  Only 1ft of swell fanned by an early light onshore and rapidly filling big tide.  Wouldn’t ya love to be in Noosa?

Hello Friends,

Looks as though the primary swell direction has shifted to the east overnight. “Swell” might be too big a word for a metre at 7 seconds apart though. High tide’s about 0730 and wind’s comparatively light from the E to SE along the Sydney coast as the day gets rolling.

While today looks like a good one for doing holiday stuff rather than going to the beach, the forecast models are still holding out hope of some sizable e-ne wind swell in a couple days.

If the forecast’s right, you could be looking at an ECL forming up off the Qld/NSW border and then moving south. Potentially that could mean sizable (overhead) waves from around Monday to Tuesday or so. Wind however is likely to be a major issue as the models show the system staying pretty close to shore.

It’s pretty much flat over in southern California today as well, but I’m nurturing hopes for Mon-Tuesday…

Have yourself a great day!

Dee Why: Not happening today, but it’s coming on Sunday

Coming.

Not much happening on the beach but Christmas is coming.  Patience.  I was lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins at Little Narrabeen for over an hour having a great time.  This is truly God’s Country.  Enjoy  Surf Photos of You.  Merry Christmas and be safe.

Checking it out from afar

Posted on December 23rd, 2011 in Big Picture.

Hello Friends,

Looks like another day of puny conditions for Sydney surfers. According to the MHL buoy, it’s about a metre from the SSE at 7 seconds out at sea. And there’s a light SE breeze for the early. The wind is set to go more to the NE later, but there’s no immediate prospect of improvement to surf prospects. Knee to waist, maybe…

Probably best to focus on holiday parties and such because surf prospects are distinctly ordinary for the next few days. Some of the models reckon there could be a significant boost to size for late Sunday into Monday as some NE energy develops up north and spreads southward into the Sydney region. Unfortunately it looks as though it’ll be accompanied by stacks of NE wind… so not too many clean options likely to be on offer.

Meanwhile here in So California the swell is bumbling along in the knee to waist high range at more exposed spots. However, there could be a small uptick on the weekend and then, if we’re lucky, some proper winter juice Mon-Tue-ish… one lives in hope!

Have yourself a great day!

Season, In Byron Bay Today.

Posted on December 23rd, 2011 in Byron, Surf Reports.

So there we have it, another year almost done as we head into the silly season, in Byron Bay today. Just remember folks take it easy on the roads, watch out for those who aren’t watching out, and be aware that it may just get a tad hectic in the bay. To top it all off looks like Huey has some swell on the way. There’s a tropical low up north that briefly made cyclone status long enough to be named Fina before backing off to a low again. But that will probably produce fairly lumpy swell. However at the same time there is a monster low in the bight. If that beastie swings north up The Tasman and bumps into the remnants of Fina, then things could real silly this season, In Byron Bay Today.
