Weirdly cool morning

Hello Friends,

Blew into Sydney yesterday arvo after a longer than usual haul from the northern hemisphere and got up this morning in a jet-lagged state to discover there were in fact small waves in the south corners. As I write this at around 0940, swell direction is south with an average height at sea of around two metres and a period range of 9-10 seconds. The Bureau is advising of large swells breaking dangerously close inshore, but I didn’t really see anything above about the chest high mark.

High tide is at 1000 and low’s about 1640.

Wind was SSW 10-20 kts.

As you can see from the picture below, there were some reasonable size set waves to be had on the incoming tide about mid-way along the Collaroy Narrabeen stretch. Saw a few bods down the beach from North Narrabeen, but it looked like conversation might have been more plentiful than surfing.

Meanwhile, around the corner and down the beach, a small group of folks were chasing infrequent knee to waist high things at Dee Why centre (see pic below). I was surprised to see that most people were wearing rubber. Maybe it’s the unseasonably cool air temps this morning (makes it feel more like late autumn). I’ve had enough of chilly water for now, so was looking forward to boardies (that said, southern California water temps were pretty mild for this time of year).

Anyway, it’s good to be back home again and here’s hoping the forecast models are correct and that we see some energy for tomorrow morning.

Not exactly booming at Dee Why this morning.
