"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Funky Junky

Hello Friends,
Not the nicest Saturday morning I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t raining when I climbed aloft to train my spyglass on the situation for the first time this morning. But, quoth the Bureau: “Sydney area
Cloudy. Rain increasing in the morning, then easing during the late the afternoon or early evening. Winds northeast to southeasterly averaging up to 25 km/h tending north to northeasterly up to 20 km/h later in the evening.”

Dark grey skies and 10-15 kts of east wind greeted the early risers this morning. An incoming tide was doing what it could to give the 8 second, 2.5 metre SE wind swell a little extra push. Sets seemed to be around the chest high mark at Dee Why point and there was a hardy crew on hand to greet them. But, as the picture shows, it was messy and junky looking. Throw in the revolting looking water and you’d have to say that the ingredients are all there for below average crowds (just trying to be positive!).

The easterlies are due to swing around to the NE later and get into the 20 to 30 kt range later (along with that rain). According to the forecast, the NE’r will stick around through Sunday and the swell will weaken a touch.

Further outlook is for the wind to still be NE on Monday before we go back into a southerly regime for the remainder of the work week.

Some of the forecast interpretations are pointing toward possibly interesting conditions late Thursday, early Friday as the swell perks into the two metre range, the wind relents and skies clear…

Have yourself a top old Saturday!

Weather Situation
A high to the south of Tasmania extends a ridge along the New South Wales coast. This ridge is expected to remain through the weekend as the high moves east, while a trough remains over inland New South Wales. Increasing northerly winds between these systems are expected affect the coast during Saturday and Sunday, before a low deepens near Tasmania and brings a southerly change to the coast early next week.
